Reaper loses track of plugin selection when loading project on other machine

I have a project that uses Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol as a VSTi. The plugin is set to use one of my Native Instruments Komplete Ultimate instruments "The Giant", which is a piano. When I open this project on my laptop, which also has this VSTi installed, the track will load Komplete Kontrol, but it will not load the preset. I have to go select the preset manually. If I save the project on that computer and transfer back to my desktop later when I'm at home, the project again loses track of the preset I had selected.

Besides hardware, the only difference between the two machine set ups is that the VST folder for one computer is in a different location on the D: drive, as is the directory folder for the samples. However, this doesn't effect other Native Instruments plugins from loading presets.
