Windows 10 Install Issue
Forgive me if in the wrong place, but I cannot get REAPER installed. It was working fine all week and then tonight it crashed. I can't get it to install properly and run.
Seeking help.
(Note: It also appears I can't fully delete all REAPER files, but I am not a computer geek by any means so this might not be the issue. Lead me down the path of "administrator permissions")
Basically, REAPER will not install and pull up. It starts to load and then it freezes and the loading wheel spins. Eventually it says "program stopped working" and gives me the option to either "close the program" or "wait for program to start".
Here are the screen shots.

Portable
Have you tried the portable install to see if that opens? That sometimes helps determine if you need to delete something in the prefs.

I think Blumpy's suggestion is a good place to start.
Since you're not a "computer geek", what he's suggesting regarding deleting "prefs" is that you may have inadvertently changed some setting in your preferences setup that is causing problems. These preferences will not be replaced with a new install and, so, your problem will repeat itself. If a portable install works, then this is most likely the case.
I hope that makes sense. I just got out of bed.

Is that the button that says something like "portable install" or something similar when installing? I stared at that for like 20 mins last night thinking about what that could mean.
Thanks for the replies!
Is there a way to clean everything out and fresh start it all, cause I do know I did very much set some preferences for my projects.
Noteworthy info: I'm on a Windows 10 i5 3.0hz build designed for Adobe video production and using a Behringer UMC 404hd U-Phoria 4in 4out USB interface.
I assumed I could just plug in and start making songs, but that is not how things have worked, thus far.

Yes. The portable install button is the thing.
For a "complete" reinstall, you can go to your Reaper Resources folder and delete it. I think that should work, though I don't know what files might be stored in the Windows registry. It's worth a try, though. The file folder is called "REAPER" and it should be in the C drive under path "Users>Your username>App Data>Roaming.
If you've only changed settings on a per project basis, this is unlikely to make a difference. However, there is one thing that might have happened. Some people have inadvertently set their VST path incorrectly so that, upon start up, Reaper is searching their entire hard drive for VST plugs which can make it seem like Reaper is not loading when, in fact, it will eventually load after scanning the entire drive.
Good luck.

I should add that using an uninstall app such as Revo Uninstaller can remove any Reaper files that might be in the Windows registry though this may not be necessary.

If you decide to try the portable install, there is a vid here that might be helpful. The Reaper Mania channel on Youtube is a wealth of information as is The Reaper Blog. There are some others, too, but I can't think of the names at the mo.

dug dog: Been said by the devs many times, Reaper doesn`t have anything to do with the registry, so no need to go that drastic.
In fact Reaper is one of the few applications you can trust to simply go away if you use tyhe basic windows-included uninstaller.
BUT I agree with dug dog on the possibility that you set your OS ( C:\ drive) in the plugin scan path in error. A very common mistake. I know I did it once & so have very many others. Once you get a portable install going you can then take the time to look at the reaper.ini file for your existing Reaper install and change the plugin scan line if that is indeed the problem.

Thanks for that info. I don't recall seeing that info before but, to be fair, it wasn't that long ago that my eyes would just glaze over when someone mentioned the registry or ini files so I may well have seen it without it registering.
