Default Volume envelope won't make a straight line

I just upgraded from Reaper v3, and I'm having issues with volume envelopes. When I try to create a straight line from unity to -30 or so, it won't make a straight line, it adds in a corner partway down, so that the volume goes down more slowly for the first half, and then speeds up for the second half. I don't understand what it's doing, and how to turn it off so that the line just goes straight between the 2 points.

One of the numerous things where Reaper does something helpful but doesn't make it clear, so it looks wrong.

It *is* a straight line, under the hood. The envelope is drawn with a different scale below 0db than above 0db - I think the idea is that automation is typically finely-detailed volume cuts, where you want more specific control, and automated boosts don't.

There might be a setting somewhere related to it; not sure.

a corner?

check what the point shape is you are using for your points... it sounds like the one want is 'linear'... but it also sounds like you are currently using some other shape

there are actions to change the shape and the selections for point shape is also in menu... and do know that you can have point of diff shapes on the same envelope... so you gotta pay attention

EDIT: actually just tested what you have said... with the linear shape and I see what you are talking about
it's good to set the env. to read mode to watch the sliders respond...

I'm not totally sure but I think we are seeing something that has to do with how meter scale is visually shown... in that the distance between the higher and lower values is not equal for the whole scale... the actual vol. change likely is OK but how it looks is as you describe

Also... you might actually try other shapes like the bezier where you can hold the alt key and tweak the shape quite radically... which may give you more what you are after... just a thought
