You for sure occasionally stumbled across cryptic messages like
Quote:
For the FR Tracker: !group "Hide Tracks in the Track Control Panel"
|
That was the vote counter tagging.
I always thought it was a cool part of the community. Those stupid +11111!!!!111eleven posts you see everywhere around the kiddiewebz, darned they be. But here they made a nice and reasonable sense. I found that awesome.
Here is the initial thread for some more blast: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=6982 (gotta love Till's introductory line )
And woohoo, it is still ticking away, this FR is now +20 and raced upward a whopping ten placed to #44. Go team CC names!

I think this FR deserves a New Year's Bump. It's been 3 1/2 years since the original FR, so I assume it's coming any day now.
In the meantime, what clever work arounds do people use so you can remember that CC56 refers to "MMoog Pitch" or "AmpEnv Attack" or "Punch" or whatever (to paraphrase Darkstar.) Some things I've done are use the item notes as reminders (i.e. CC21=Tremelo depth) and use a custom note name for some unused note (like C#-1 = Tremelo depth). Neither of these reminders is as obvious as just naming the CC lane would be. Any other suggestions for workarounds?

Some of my instruments require so many controllers I actually make help screen for them. In the screenshot below I have a Steel Guitar that requires 25+ controllers and it would be impossible to work with without these help screens.

@ Tod,
That gave me an idea:
-- insert an Empty Item into your project and load the image file into there
-- you might need to rearrange the image layout a bit
-- that way you do not need to open it separately
-- and you can assign a keyboard shortcut to "Item: Show notes for items"
<< image dropped by ImageShack >>

That's neat DarkStar thanks, I can see that working great for some things. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to focus on anything else while the image is floating. I need the help screens visible while I'm working in the ME.
I did manage to first open the Midi Editor, then run "Item: Show notes for items", and was able to do some editing in ME but I lost some of the shortcut key actions. Like Space-bar for play and any actions I had set for "Pass through" which are all pretty vital.
I do have some projects though that this will come in very handy so again Thankyou.

This is helluva stupid not to be able to load a simple text file instead of this General Midi list (seems to be the most easiest way of implementation). And who uses GM these days???
Or is it implemented now? I could not find any way to do this, if it is would someone be so kind to direct me
I mean this is from 2007 - http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=14338
Yes, 6 years.

I'll +1 this. Although the team is deep into midi enhancement at the moment, and there is a lot of more important stuff to be done. Like selecting events in the cc lanes...

I just thought about this a few minutes ago. Would be great to name the midi cc's

+1 again
And the ability to assign custom displayed values would be nice.
Like for a knob that has 5 values, it would be nice if it showed up in ME with those values.

I made this pic for another FR originally but I think it shows the usefulness of naming CC lanes quite well.
"uhm...what actually is controlling CC22 or 19 GP slider 4 on that VST again ?"

I am sorely disappointed that this basic feature has not yet been implemented -- after *seven* years.

As a proud owner of a number of VSTis that are extensively controllable by CCs I too think it is a crying shame that this is yet another MIDI enhancement that has been available in just about any other decent MIDI sequencer since the year dot.
I can live without it but it sure would be nice to have it.

Maybe we should light our torches, grab the pitchforks and storm the castle?
As far as I know the only defences consist of a series of IF-THEN loops and a bunch of scruffy-looking LLamas.

Or,
I'd propose a "Show your nipples parade"
in front of Cockos office-windows.
Just as a friendly reminder.

CC lane renaming would be SO useful. And it fits Reaper's customization ethos perfectly.
Big +1 from me too!

I'm revisiting a vsti-track with many cc-lanes used.
They just have numbers,
and I have no idea what parameters they actually are controlling.

For the time being, you can at least help yourself using SWS track notes, if nothing?

Good idea.
I'll see if I can get that into a habit.
Thanks!
Ended up redoing all controller-stuff on the track. The vst had been deleted by a mistake,
and trying to connect the dots was just not happening.

Another option -- if you are writing a new mockup, but perhaps not if recording or using an existing MIDI file -- is to use the JS note-to-CC converter from http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=43882.
Using this script, you can write the CC's as *notes* in a separate child track. Custom CC names can be loaded as note names for the child track, and voilà, you have all CC's visible in your piano roll!
(This is similar to using a separate child track for keyswitches.)

Well, yes, you get the names, but adds to the complexity.
I'll stick to midi cc text and sws track notes for now I believe.
But thanks!

Bump for 2016. This feature would be one of the last things to push me over the edge and finally skip Cubase altogether. I pray to the Reaper gods this will happen soon!
