Alesis Firewire
Did a search and found a couple posts, but nothing that specifically said. Just wondering if Reaper is compatible with an Alesis Multimix 12 Channel board/card set-up.
Like a smart guy I called them to find out. Like an idiot I said the wrong software name :/. So yeah I suck and have to come here to ask!
I was told that it works with just about anything with asio drivers. Anyway, thanks for your time.

Hi Almy,
Welcome to Reaper world! The Alesis should work fine. A lot of manfs are using a relatively new Firewire chip and they probably all have a lot in common driver-wise. I read a review on a Phonic Helix board which is the same as the Alesis feature-wise. The review was very favorable. Almost plug and play they said. They did have to run a short driver install routine but it was painless and worked perfectly with several different softwares. I'd DEFINITELY go that route over the USB versions!
Good luck!

Thanks! I've been browsing the forums for a bit and decided to go ahead and download it to give it a shot. Now I don't know anything about recording software really...but uh, man is that a fast install! I think I'm seeing the joy of minimalism at it's best.
My firewire mixer will probably be here next week, then I can dig in and break some stuff. All those vst plugins are going to make me accomplish nothing but toying around for hours for a while I think :P.
Have a feeling I'll be buying reaper if it all works out. Thanks again!

Oh man, completely forgot about this thread! Sorry guys.
fortheloveofgod, I used ASIO and everything is smooth as can be.
Vyacheslav, I may be the wrong guy to get a review for it, as I'm in a very basic setup. I only use it for acoustic guitar at the moment. 2 channels for the mic, and 2 channels for an internal pickup system. But man is it nice. It set up absolutely easily, with no problems. I also haven't had to disable my onboard audio which I like. I use my computer speakers for an alarm clock :P. I noticed some reviews making this seem complicated, but I've had no problems, after turning the mixer off the computer goes back to my onboard audio. I do have to reboot to get back to the mixer but for me that's fine.
I really dig the firewire mixer tho. SO nice to have an interface that can connect anything....well not counting midi. Midi is something I don't do at all so that is a non issue, but iirc you can't run midi thru the alesis firewire mixers. Might want to check on that tho, surely you could connect a midi controller to it?
I haven't even touched the onboard effects, so I can help there. The onboard pre-amps work fine for me. But I have nothing to compare :P. Hopefully someone who actually uses it for something besides the most simple application will jump in and give you a real review.

Thank you, Almy!
I think your reply is very helpful for the beginners like me.
If I buy it I try to write some words about this device too.
One more question, Almy. What about the AD converters? Are they work fine?

Using a Multimix 16 firewire...
I was wondering if anyone has tried to record the full 16 tracks
from the mutimix or the full 12 tracks from the multmix 12?
I want to record many inputs live 12+, and didn't want to be limited to just 8 mono tracks like the ( high priced ) Cubase..
Any limit on the number of track to record together?
Thanks for any info.

I don't use the Alesis myself... but Reaper can certainly handle the task. I track 16 channels easily with my EMU 1820M and Behri ADA8000. I hear the Alesis drivers are pretty solid so I think it would work fine.

Alesis Firewire 12
Just saw this thread. I have the Alesis MultiMix Firewire 12 and it works fine; Reaper happily records all 12 channels plus the stereo mix. Two little things:
1) you need to switch things on in the right sequence - computer, MultiMix, then start Reaper.
2) AFAIK the MultiMix only works in 24 bit mode. No problem for Reaper.
I'm happy with mine.
Cheers
