Default Native support of Novation Automap 2.0

The Novation Nocturn is a brilliant little device. I'd love to see native Novation Automap 2.0 support within reaper. This would allow the nocturn controller to see all reaper native plugins, tweak channel volume, pan, mute, solo etc.

Please consider it. AFAIK the Novation has sold quite a lot of their controllers so there are probably quite many possible customers who own at least one Automap universal 2.0 enabled controller.

Cheers!

+1

It would be good if Reaper could detect the Automap-enabled (i.e. wrapped) versions of the VST(i)s, then hide the original VST(i)s and show/use the Automap-enabled ones in their place.

That way you could take old projects, written before you got the Nocturn, reload them and see your VST(i)s Automap-enabled. In addition, the FX Browser would not be unnecessarily cluttered.

Does that mean that no wrappers would be required? That would really be cool.

No, you'll still need the "Automap" wrapped plugins to be able to control them but native support for the HOST itself will let you use the "mixer" button to control Reaper directly from a novation device, which would be awesome.

Cheers!

I don't want to come across as pushy or anything, but just as a matter of curiosity is there any timeframe that the devs are looking at to get Automap 2 working in Reaper?

I just got a Remote Zero SL a while back and after looking at how well the synths and stuff work even with wrappers this is definitely good news in my book.

I realize that there are some manual templates in the Reaper Resources and those work well, but full Automap Support would be even better.

Thanks

Novation says they've shipped us a unit for testing (they're eager for us to get things working too). After it arrives we should be able to have things working within a few releases on our side. I have no idea if anything will require changing on their side, or if it does what the time frame would be.

Awesome

Absolutely fantastic

I use my XStation (sure it doesn't have automap) with Reason already as a midi controller. Would love to see it benefit from this development (yes I know I am repeating myself - but I do that when I get excited) which I am sure it will.

Winning combination happening here. Reaper & Novation

I've looked into the Automap 2.0 SDK and everything seems quite easy to use... but then I don't know anything about the Reaper end of things. :-)

Looking forward to it though... and I'm definetely up for beta testing it if needed.

OK, as of today I have a Nocturn for testing. Nifty unit.

So far it works with no hitches to wrap plugins, or control Reaper in midi mode. I'll see what Novation needs us to do for a native mixer mapping to work.

Wrapping the Reaplugs with Novation definitely *won't* work, because they are not standalone VSTs. Whatever their native mixer mapping does, may be able to control Reaplugs, if we get a native Reaper mapping in place.

I've seen a couple of comments about Reaper being unstable when running 3rd-party plugins that are wrapped for the Novation but I can't reproduce it (though I haven't tried very hard). If anyone has a recipe for making something bad happen with Reaper and Novation, please give it over.

Default Automap Ever?

Hi Peeps
Does it look like reaper will ever have native support for Automap Universal? My Remote SL has been sitting on the side waiting to be given it's chance to shine for some time. There are various work arounds But none of them are really useable yet (using midilearn and actions causes problems when using the automapped plugs / creating a complete template ends up slowing the work flow not enhancing it due to all the switching here and there / the HUI mode just seems to show "HUI Session Closed").
It would be great to find out whats happening on this. Reaper is an awesome app and it has very nearly won it's place as my default DAW. But there are just a few basic niggles that are stopping the full transition.

I contacted Novation again and their reply was this:

Hi Jens,

Thanks for the email.

I am afraid I cannot comment on any development. Any new updates will be announced on our website, so please check back in the future.

Thanks in advance for your understanding and patient.

Best regards,

So... the search continues.

From what I know the Reaper guys have done their part of the job. If I remember correctly there was a post from Schwa where he said something like that.

Could there be a generic "automap" like functionality that will work with all controllers?

I have a pad controller and a keyboard controller with knobs. They both send out regular MIDI messages. Instead of building templates for specific instruments and uploading them in the (limited slots) in the controllers memory... Reaper could act as an intermediate layer, interpreting the controller data differently for each plugin or interface element.

I am thinking of windows with generic customizable UI elements (switches, sliders, knobs etc), tied to the controller on one end (with simple midi learn), and "automapping" on the software end.

What do you think?

I bought some new things for the studio and I saw this for 77€. It's so cheap that I bought it just to try it.
I've read all the threads regarding nocturn so I just want to say... any news in the native support?

+1 I have a Nocturn and a Remote SL 61. I would love to use them both in Reaper. The SL would be great to control Reaper's mixer functions like it does so well in Cubase, Sonar, etc.

Reaper should work with Automap 3.0 in HUI mode.

Automap 3 configuration for Reaper:
1) Settings Automap 3(!) Server: "Use Automap HUI" (see picture Automap3.jpg)
2) Settings in Reaper: Preferences -> Control Surfaces -> "Hui Partial" -> "edit" -> Midi Input + Output "Automap HUI" (see picture reaper-automap-settings.jpg)

As an alternative you can select "surface offset (tracks)" to value "1", so the reaper master channel isn´t shown, and track 1 begins with the first one in the row.

What does not work:
On my Remote 49SL compact the buttons "forward", "rewind", "record", "loop" do nothing at the moment.
I hope for a soon fix for this.... (I don´t know if it´s the problem of automap or reaper)
