Default Drum trigger (RCA out) to interface MIDI in?

Here's the current setup:
I have a drum pad with a trigger (RCA out).
It’s plugged into an Alesis DM5 drum module.
I don’t use the sounds from the DM5, but I need it to send a MIDI signal to my interface.

I want to omit the DM5.
What’s the cheapest way to send the signal from a drum trigger (RCA) to my midi input of my interface?

I’d appreciate any suggestions you can make.

Peace,

Maybe see if the RCA produces an audio signal when you hit the pads. It's possible to use audio to trigger a MIDI signal.

If I look up that unit, it appears to have MIDI outs, which should give you what you need. If you don't have any interface with MIDI inputs, MIDI to USB adapters are cheap.

Yep. I retired my D4 a while ago and just run my drum triggers to the line inputs on my interface. There's a JS drum trigger plugin that comes with Reaper which will convert it to velocity sensitive midi and probably work fine.

I had no idea that existed. Great info! Thanks!

It's really sad the the stock plugins are not in the ReaPack database to make the findable and documented.
