Default Ensoniq Paris "Jails"

Hi,
Does Reaper have anything like Ensoniq Paris's "jails"?

You could store any number of items from any number of tracks in them, edited up in different ways, bring them back locked to where they were, or move them to wherever.

I sometimes like to edit things up, move multiple items around, sections, etc. But then maybe change my mind or put back what I had there. But where to put stuff in the mean time in an organized fashion? The only thing I can think of is move them to new tracks.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

This is just what Reaper (and any other DAW) does.

Yes: Create a new Reaper project, move the items where you want them.
And if you change your mind go back to the original Reaper project file.

That is a method which is used by every musician here - every day!

Wouldn't you end up with a bunch of different project files?

Seems moving things to empty tracks would be easier, no?

Paris had 32 jails, and I'd fill them all up.

Thanks.

Yes, maybe.

But it is up to you how you organize your song. You can
put tracks into track folders and use these folders for
different purposes. One folder as an "item bin", the
other only for vocals etc. etc. ...

There are so many ways to get organized!

I guess muted empty tracks is the way to go.

Another thing Paris had was a thing called Freeform mode, where you had a big playing field, and you could, for example, move something that was assigned to the same channel into a space/lane above something else, and only the top one would play. That way you could have the old thing right there without having to get rid of it. And you could see everything.

Oh well. Guess I'll have to get used to not having those ways of doing things.

Thanks.

lots of ways in reaper to accomplish this...

besides muted tracks, you can mute items while leaving the track active...

so you could create you own unlimited number of 'jails' [what a term!] each one being a named track...

besides all that you can set a track to free item positioning and put whatever items on it, even at the same time location and then mute or unmute each item....
