Hi WT, what I was trying to do is been able to switch from my theme (86px MCP width) to R7 Theme assembler without changing certain things...

Anyway I think that is going to be easier if a put 2 more pixels in my TCP width.

Thanks

No that's not something that can be themed. It has been my experience that almost all problems with overall text sizes in Reaper turn out to be because the user's HiDPI/retina Reaper settings are not configured correctly, so have a search for that topic. Don't try to address this with theming, themes can only change some stuff and you'll likely get in a muddle.

Thanks WT...my interest in font size stems from an eye sight problem which makes it difficult to read some of the small text.just was wondering whether there was a font fix...thanks again

Of course; if some text is too small then that's not acceptable. Again, there is probably already a fix in your Reaper HiDPI/retina configuration. That's not a theme thing, so its not a Theme Adjuster script thing, and so I'm afraid its not something that I'm able to help you with.

When the next Reaper drops with the V7 theme adjuster built in, do we delete this beta script?

Also, thanks for all your work! V7 theme is amazing

Default Folder indent indicators

Hi, I'm currently using the default 7 theme with adjustments from actual theme adjuster, and few personal tweaks...

I've found a way to show indent indicators similar to the classic theme 1 (which I think is quite a good idea), with "tcp_folderindent 10" in the rtconfig.txt
The problem for me is that it breaks the initial folder balancing method.
(also I think the transparency of the actual tracks in the horizontal axis makes the indent visibility less efficient)

First, I'm wondering if there is some future plans about indent indicators in the theme adjuster ?

If not, I'm looking for informations or clues on how to be able to draw a .png in the background of the indent area, or other methods to have some kind of vertical lines/stripes to indicate indentations.

I've seen some threads for making it with version 6 but nothing for version 7, who seems to be structured a bit differently about this section if I'm not wrong ?

Thanks !

(do not mind the little gray squares on the 2nd picture, it's bug from my tweaks of the rtconfig Also, the route, fx and envelope icons are from V6, but it's actually V7.)

I don't use the indent indicators because the theme doesn't use Reaper's fixed indent system, it has variable width indents, under the control of this theme adjuster, and that doesn't work with those fixed size images. That's the kind of thing this theme does : it lets you change lots of things without going poking around in the rtconfig.

There is a downside to this, though. To do it, the theme's code is very complex. Indeed, the theme's code is very complex solely for this reason. That is why I say : don't go poking around in the WALTER of the Default 7.0 theme until you're ready for endgame difficulty WALTER code.

If you want stronger folder indent indication, the method in the Default 7.0 theme is to turn the indent up, but your screenshot shows that you have turned it down from its default of 20px, so I'd suggest reversing that decision.

I also advise against poking around in the Default 6.0 theme's WALTER. There are mods out there where the modder has accidentally broken bits of the theme, and does't know why, and as you note, there are threads of people (very irresponsibly IMO) instructing neophyte themers to hack around in the theme's rtconfig. These are not the people you will be asking for help you when things go wrong, so while I stay out of those threads because I'm not your mum, let me similarly encourage you to stay out of the Default 6.0 theme's WALTER.

If you really are ready to go poking about in the default theme's WALTER, then you are very very ready to start making your own theme, writing your own WALTER. Which I always encourage. If you take a blank text file and change its extension to .ReaperTheme, that is now a 100% fully functional Reaper theme. And not only that ....it'll be using the folder indent indicators!

Default Track monitor unlinked to track name label

Hi ¡¡¡

Would it be possible for track monitor being unlinked to track name label like other buttons like FX, routing or whatever...

If we have it visible always it takes part of name label.

For big screens it's all fine but for other kind would help a lot.

Thanks

Sorry to ask this again and feel free to ignore this if it feels too FR:lly but would you consider separating the inputFX from the input button a possibility - and thus hiding either one with the visibility programmer part of the adjuster?

The inputFX feels a tad redundant "space waster" when it's something few most likely will ever use (I could be wrong on this and I of course understand that the default theme isn't catered to just my taste or idea of what's useful or not.) in Reaper.

But it would save space in the TCP and might cause less confusion ("which FX button do I use?") for people if it could be hidden with the adjuster. Or not.

Just a thought.

I think the same.

It would be useful.

Also recarm would be great if he could hide It for creating bus tracks layers that we dont have to rec there.

Thanks

Yes the input fx are a constant source of confusion with noobs. Hide that shizz!

Or simply make everyone happy and let us hide ALL the elements in ALL control panel sizes...please... I can't comprehend these arbitrary limitations...

I mean, I understand the "idea" behind all this - or at least I think I do. They are linked by design. But as the adjuster has grown into a beast of it's own, it would be amazing if it would be possible to hide elements more independently. But that's of course the choice of the designer (and of course if there's some other princeble from Justin we don't know that affect all this. And yeah, Reaper design isn't done by vote and all that jazz too!).

But it would be cool. But I can live without the "improvement" too!

Newer versions of the script are included in the 7.16+dev pre-releases. We're nearly there!

I'm not stupid, I do understand that by 'everyone' and 'us' you mean 'me' and 'me'. And yeah, no problem, we've got you : theme is open source, adjuster script is open source, theme dev documentation is here, there's about a bajillion other themes... there's no need for bold. Calm.

I still think that it's a real good idea that we could hide all from Themeadjuster and also think that suggesting in a polite way is a great idea too.

I didn't ask for feature requests, and I've repeatedly asked people not to keep asking me for the same thing over and over after I've said no. That most certainly stops being polite quite quickly.

Just a simple question; as it now seems that the pre-releases come with the script, should we still be testing the one posted in the OP or the one attached to the pre-release - meaning, does it too get updated to the latest version of the script?

No, the script in this thread is out of date and the thread is unstuck. Its part of the 7.16+dev pre-releases now, so with any luck...

Yeah, sorry to rain the parade but there's a weird bug with text in the adjuster in the new pre...with windows 10 it's like this :

Apologies but emphatically, no! The default theme would be better (i.e. suit a wider variety of needs) if everyone's idea of the perfect layout were possible and it's already so close. At least 6 of us that I'm aware of have asked you about hiding all the elements so I have no idea where this "me me me" comes from, but I digress...

I promise I'll stop asking but I'd still really like to know why the layouts are stopping short of being fully configurable. You yourself have indicated the mcp width layouts are essentially the same, so why don't they have the same options?

If you please, White Tie, can you indulge me with an actual, even clinical explanation of the reasoning behind these limitations? I'm happy to keep using Assembler Theme but I see all this potential here and truly amazing work, but it's crippled by really just a few seemingly arbitrary limitations. Why?

I'll probably stick with Assembler Theme anyway so my motivation here is really here is a way I'm convinced the Default Theme could easily, exponentially multiply it's usefulness and I'm actually shocked how you can keep brushing it off like it's nothing more than an annoying mosquito.

Why don't you think this is a damn good idea? Is it impossible, too much work, you think the idea is dumb or what? Your witty non-answers are delightful and entertaining, but make my frustration and curiosity more burning. Sorry about that, truly.

A straightforward answer is all I want. Please don't be mad...

In the pre-release thread please. This thread is about an old version that I don't want people wasting their time trying.

I don't think I'm going to be able to fix that, the script just tells it to make the text big, its the margins cutting that are the text off. That's a much longer story, alas.

I have not asked to engage in any such discussion, indeed I have repeatedly asked not to. Please test the script in the latest pre and report any bugs in the appropriate thread.

Hi WT, this is the last time I write here because I know you are fed up with this.

I have understood (I didn't know) that this thread is not made for suggestion/FR.

What I tell you, of course, if you consider that is a good idea and with the only purpose of taking Theme Adjuster closer to user's needs (that is what I think that Fox Asteria is also refering) is this:

Open (if you want and when you consider that is good to do it) a Thread like this for instance:

"Theme Adjuster FR - ONLY READ / NOT RESPONDING"

That way you dont have to waste time responding but get ideas that probably can be useful for final users.

That's all.

Thanks for all again.

Any forum user can make a thread about any subject.

Everyone thinks their idea is the cat's pyjamas, and maybe it is. But at some point you have to make the thing and test it, and at that point feature requests are pure distraction and it becomes necessary to take no for an answer. If one of the answers to a question is "I asked you not to ask that question" then really any other answers are an irrelevance. And that becomes even more the case if it is repeatedly asked.

Please, enough. I have not asked for feature requests, or a discussions about feature requests, or a discussion about why I'm not particularly interested in a discussion about feature requests. I'm a year late with this work, and it only becomes useful when its out. Please test the script in the latest pre and report any bugs in the appropriate thread.

It doesn't really matter, you can delete it if you want, the release version goes in the Cockos folder so won't interfere.
