UPDATED: New Vocal for Gotta Lift Each Other Up!
EDIT: Collab with BarryMK has resulted in a new vocal track with this song. THANK YOU Barry for helping! I'm open to tips on how to better mix the vocal.
Bluesy Rock tune about significant others, this is my attempt to sound Texican. Pardon my broken Spanish, por favor......
A link to the mp3 with Barry's new vocal track:

GOTTA LIFT
I tried to hide, but I took me for a ride,
I went awry, but that was just a lie,
I’m flying blind, over the line,
I have no time time time, just a sparkle in my eye…
Your happy tears take away my fears,
you are the wings making angels fly,
you are my eye, a prayer to the sky,
you are the flower on the vine turning water into wine….
Milagro cielo, solo cielo, lo sabe corrazon…

I really loved the instrumental aspects. Just great stuff there.
To be brutally honest, the vocals were a negative for me. I'd say there were three issues:
1. The effects choices, chorus or whatever, just did not fit with the instrumental tones, in my opinion. Too much of that "singing through a tin cup" hollow / echo sound. I think a more raw, plain vocal tone would have gone better. Now, if this is a product of auto-tune or something, maybe it's unavoidable, but then I guess rather than doing less vocal FX, maybe you need to add more FX. There's not just one way to fix this, but for me the current FX / tonal aspect of the vocals was just a bad fit. As an example, I listened to some of your other song, Native Tongue, and I thought the vocals there had a much better tone, stronger and more raw / unmodified, and I think that would have worked better with this song, too.
2. The melodic line of the vocals was not great for me. Maybe too simplistic and repetitive, not "melodic" enough, or something like that. I want to say the verses were like the same five notes repeated three times, and I think those notes were just moving between two musical notes, like "a a a c a." If you stripped away the instruments, and just sang the vocal melody, I don't think this would sound like a pretty song. It feels like the vocal melody was an after thought.
3. I think the singing is just pitchy in general. Like, maybe you used an autotune that was a bit slow to correct, or just somewhat imperfect. Or maybe an autotune is needed? It is not off by a lot, but there were places I felt the voice came very close, but not quite, to the next note it needed to hit.
I'm not a singer, so this is more criticism from a music listener than a peer.

To be honest.
The vocals have one line repeating thru the whole song.
I would call it sloppy.
The rest is good though.
Sorry for being an A-*

Have to agree with the above. Great arrangement and playing, absolutely top notch. Sadly let down by the vocal side. The monotonous one liner repetition might well work with some songs but falls flat here (to my ears anyway). I'd just play around extemporising a bit on the melody and vocal timing. It sounds too "straight" - that may have been what you were aiming for stylistically of course but it doesn't seem to work here. A little vocal latitude would make this a 100% winner. The music itself is complex and tight but has that Latin looseness that the vocal line lacks. Nonetheless some great work here.

A thousand Frenchmen can't be wrong. Thanks for listening.
There are no effects and no autotune on the vox. I wanted to do it without any of that just to see how close I could get. I also knew I was writing a vocal part that was way out of my range. Unfortunately, the vocals are just "thrown together" and not really thought out.
I think what you are hearing as effects is a result of me singing it twice, doubling the vocal for real and not just copying the original voc track.
My only counter to your comments about the vocals and the melody would be this......how many other "famous songs" on the radio, etc. would also fit your observations? A bunch.....

Listening again I think I hear why you guys thought there must be some kind of effect on the vocals. I'll have to dissect the mix to find out what it is, but it does sound boxy, and like it has a strange kind of small room reverb on it.
Coming up with a better melody and re-singing it will take a lot more focus, however......but I am thinking about what to do with it.
Please note that I have a very dry sense of humor, but I am able to chuckle at myself. I appreciate your honest thoughts about the vocals. I actually have always hated my own singing, but......nobody else is gonna do it.....not without getting paid, anyway....so I may come up with a better melody someday, but I don't expect myself to be a better singer by then! LOL!!
That won't stop me from making the music, though!

Critique' aside- liked this for what it is-especially the solo parts +/sax is that?
All-in-all-- it's musical and quite enjoyable (reminded me of an older track,in a good way) ==t4sharing!

I dig it, some Steely Dan sounds in there somewhere.

Barry the savior
Great mix.
I would like the mix to be a bit clearer, brighter or something.
Great work both of you.

Thanks for a second listen.
Just to clarify, you are referring to the mix overall, right? Not just a brighter vocal? or some combination of both?
I'm always afraid I'm gonna make it too bright or too crisp. I don't always trust my ears these days. And the plugin (Ozone 4) I was using a while back I have tried to avoid using it lately. I felt it was a little too heavy handed, but maybe that's because I was just using presets.
