Default help with midi for ediPrompt

Hey There -
I'm wondering if someone might help me figure out how to replicate a setup I have in Pro Tools, but in Reaper. It uses midi tracks to interface with an external software called ediPrompt. There is a playstatus track that goes the length of the film (for ADR) and then there are trigger events that trigger the cues in the external program. Here is the setup in pro tools to get them to talk to each other:

or here's the manual if you're feeling extremely helpful:

thanks so much in advance if you're able to help!

essentially looking to see where one would tell the midi out to go to ediPrompt and the midi in to come from ediPrompt, as per the image from the manual I linked to.

thanks!!

OK, put it this way - How do you set up Reaper to trigger and be triggered by a virtual midi channel (i.e. another program that's open sending and receiving commands)

I just don't do enough with midi (in 20 years) to know how to mimic this setup in Pro Tools with ediPrompt.
I would need a step by step.
I've asked Michael at Sounds in Sync and he says if Reaper can do midi it should be able to trigger ediPrompt.

Sorry, too tired to watch video or read manual currently but basically the procedure with virtual MIDI ports is like this:
After installing the application that provides the ports they should be accessable in Reaper and ediPrompt.

Then in Reaper you set one port / track to output on that port and your other app to input on that port.

Here's an example with loopMIDI in Reaper:

Does this help?

edit:
And the same with another port in the other direction to make it work bidirectionally.

thanks - I kind of have it working... though it triggers at odd times. I'll have to take the rest up with ediPrompt.
thanks!

I sent a video to Sounds in Sync showing how far I got:
here were their response.

Regarding your questions:

- I’m not sure why reaper is displaying the MIDI clip the way it is - as in the duration with timing in relation to the red vertical line (I’m assuming that a marker). It may have to do with your pull-down and 23.976 vs 24 FPS settings. I see the MIDI file is named 23976.mid. I’m not sure how reaper handles pull-downs and 23.976 frame rates while loading MIDI files.

- You won’t be able to display text on-screen unless you load a MIDI file into reaper that contains all the cues with the text embedded in each SYSEX command. To generate one of these MIDI files you’ll either need to generate the cues with EdiCue and export MIDI files from there, convert a EdiCue PDF into a MIDI file using EdiPrompt, or create a new list in EdiPrompt using the hidden window I told you about in a previous email and export a MIDI file. You can’t use the EdiPrompt cue list window as this only works with Pro Tools and so you can’t create new cues or select a cue to record in the list. This is the reason why the text for the cues you were playing where not shown correctly.

- To show the record status you will need to connect EdiPrompt to reaper using the HUI protocol. I’m not sure if reaper has this, and what you need to do to get this working. This would be for you to work out.

I'm trying to set this up again and it's not working for me for some reason. I have EdiPrompt's midi devices showing up in Reaper and enabled, as well as its input component.

Is there something else I need in this equation for EdiPrompt to see/hear Reaper?

I'm not sure how these virtual ports fit in the mix.
