Default Trouble opening up AU version of plugins in reaper session on a pc

Hey here’s my situation. I have a friend who uses reaper and a mac with AU plugins. Im opening up these reaper sessions on a pc. I have the exact same plugins but of course i dont have the au version i have the vst version. Right now reaper isnt opening those plugins even tho i have the same ones as vst format. Is there a way around this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

That's probably the right behavior. I don't think either OS will use the right plug in in swapping VST for AU. If your friend switches these to Mac VST versions it will do what you need.

What happens if you manually add it?

Add the plugin that was there as AU the way you normally would, adding the VST version from the fx browser on the track instead of it showing up automatically.

There is no way to have an AU automatically replaced by the VST equivalent.

Either add them manually, have the Mac user only use VST or render audio stems of the effected plugs.

is there a way though i can replace it manually with vst but still have the original plugin settings load (that were being used in the au version of the plugin)
