WYSIWYG Theme Editor
I been trying my hand at making a theme, its not very intuitive. I'm sure the idea of a WYSIWYG theme editor has come up previously. Did anything happen, is this something anyone thinks they could tackle? I'd be happy to donate

Yeah, i am pretty sure this request has been posted more times.
Would be amazing to have such a userfiendly and intuitive Theme Editor for Reaper.
Currently, that Walter scripting language for creating Themes is completely abacadabra for me and i just don't have time (and also the spirit) to dig into that (as many others i assume).
I remember that Sonar DAW had a really amazing userfriendly Theme editor built in, i'v been always jealous about that.
Well, fingers crossed but i wouldnt bet on a WYSIWYG Theme Editor (soon).

Should be scriptable, but due Walter being very complex and mighty, it would probably never reflect the whole power of Walter.
You would need to alter the rtconfig-file in the back constantly.
And you would need to reload the theme after every change or have a commit-button to reload the changed theme.
Should be doable but it's probably a hell of a lot of work...

Thank you for your input !
And you would need to reload the theme after every change or have a commit-button to reload the changed theme.
I honestly think this will be the least of annoyances using a WYSIWYG Theme Editor
I recall the application LPX Colorizer for Logic Pro X (not really a Theme editor but more of a colors editor for Logic).
This application also requires to reload the Theme for any changes to be seen: totally not a big deal IMHO.

Just found this thread, started 10 years ago to the day!

And that's where it stands. Ultimately its a large-ish job that someone needs to be motivated to put a lot of time into.

The biggest problem is, how to visualise the technical-abstract syntax of WALTER and dependencies of all elements?
Some things aren't documented and there is the possibility to use a mixture of old theming with WALTER at the same time.
And the replacing of graphical-elements/buttons would be quite difficult.
Maybe, if SWS had a "SaveImageFromClipboardAsFile(filename)"-function, we could do stuff like:
"1. Make your button in your favorite gfx-app
2. Put it into the clipboard
3. click the "import button-imagefile-from clipboard"-button
4. it will be saved properly in the correct folder
5. reload the theme
"
I should stp thinking about that. I'm still too busy with other Reaper-coding XD

Too complex and Walter is too underdocumented to make this.
So I abandoned the idea.

Ah bad news I just came across the thread and realised my comment sounded rude, when it was supposed to be a compliment lol
