Announcing ... ReaMix - Breaking the Bariers with REAPER
I’m pleased to announce the release of a new Mixing Primer, ReaMix. This represents the culmination of more than nine months work and 20 years as a recording engineer, so it’s a big day for me. And my thanks to Spike Mullings for his extraordinary patient and diligent proof-reading and road-testing.
It is available here:
http://www.lulu.com/content/2539885
Please note that because of its workbook format it will be available only in hard copy, not as PDF.
This book does much more than just teaching how to use basic DAW tools (such as volume, panning, EQ, gates, compressors, delay, reverb and so on) to get an OK sounding mix. It also goes on to guide you through the many relationships – some simple, some complex – that exist between the dimensions of sound and the dimensions of space, and gives you the knowledge and confidence to use that knowledge to transform your OK mixes into great mixes.
Although not light on theory, it has a definite practical emphasis, with links to archives containing free downloads of some 40 or so project files (about 70 MB in total) with step by step examples to help you put this knowledge into practice. It also contains completed examples which you can deconstruct.
A Demo Preview PDF version containing Table of Contents and a selection of sample pages can be downloaded here.
http://www.cockos.com/~glazfolk/ReaMixDEMO.pdf
For a short time only, for the benefit of members of this forum ReaMix will be available for a special introductory price of $16.99, but from the end of the month this will be increased, probably by $5.00. Sorry about this, but I have to eat.
I hope you’ll find this useful and interesting.
Users of DAWs other than REAPER should also be able to derive some benefits from this book, but unfortunately will not be able to put many of the examples into practice because of REAPER’s superior splitting and routing capabilities, which other DAWs just don't have. Which is why they should switch to REAPER.

Nicholas, man! You're a couple of days late! I've just purchased another book on mixing but I guess I'll just have to get this one as well... oh well, hopefully I'll be able to learn something useful from these 2 titles!

Well, you've sold me... this looks like it will answer a lot of the questions I've had about Reaper. And for only $20... seems like a good deal to me!

Much appreciated.
Thanks for that.
Your effort is much appreciated. I tried to write a book once. Actually just collaborated and contributed a chapter to a book. The subject was statistics and statistical analysis which I knew very well but.... trying to write it in a way that would be easy for others to comprehend ranks high on the list of the hardest things I've ever done. I can see from the pdf sample that you have a natural ability for explaining things well. Thanks for creating this. I just ordered one, and look forward to reading it and working through actual examples.

Looks fantastic! Congrats! I've ordered one too, in part also to thank you for the great Reaper docs you've freely distributed.
My only complaint is that you're foregoing electronic formats. I was going to go off on a lengthy oratorio about how anti-environmental this is, but I think we all understand why you went that route.
The good news is we're probably going to run out of gas before it kills us

I have to admit rather embarrassingly, that this book has more than a few extremely timesaving shortcuts that I wasn't aware of and will be using from now on.
Nicholas' approach to mixing is much different than mine, but it all obviously works
I can't imagine how in the world he was able to shoehorn 10,000 + pages of information into less than 200, all without seeming crowded.
This book takes a simple, friendly, yet EXTREMELY methodical approach that would be a benefit to anyone, of any level to read.

karhide,
Being *new* to Reaper, you may want to check out the Reaper manual that Nicholas put together... it's great.
Nicholas,
I too have ordered Reamix, it looks wonderful. I need all the help I can get!

Just read the entire demo document all the way through. Some absolutely outstanding information in there, I've got to see if I can scrape some dough together for the whole enchilada.
Great work.

Theres some very good info in the Nicolas !! the basics and beyond.
I'm curious as to your take on complex automation using Reaper !
I find it very difficult to use ( in fact I'm waiting until it's updated to even try again , I find my other program is WAY easier )
The envelope mode of working for me is kind of a weird way to do automation. I know many other programs use this form but I have never liked it , fader grouping and control as well as no single A button has me in a quandry aS well.
You have 20 yr's in this field how do you find it ????
anyhow good work
Later

I just ordered a copy to be shipped to Switzerland.
Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for it to arrive over here!

never_mind .... LULU will ship just about anywhere in the world. Sometimes they print locally (in which case you should get it in about a week), if your country doesn't have a local facility they ship from the USA (2 to 3 weeks).
xackley, if you'd care to PM me with the typo I'll fix it.
Everybody else, thanks for your encouragement, I really hope you find this useful (and enjoyable )

Actually I wanted to make you suffer, scanning pages, staring at the screen trying to see it. Off course I bought it anyway, even with 1 typo. As I said in an early post on your Manual, reading your stuff always presents new ideas.

Sorry to say monochrome only ... the cost of publishing in colour would alas have been enormous ....
