Default Audio interface for Reaper and Windows 10?

Hi all, I’m looking for an audio interface that will work well with Reaper and Windows 10 (I’m in the UK) as my previous interface (M-audio Fastrack pro) wouldn’t work with Windows 10.

I don’t need lots of inputs as I’ll only be re offing one thing at a time, so one or two XLR/TRS inputs, and also an RCA input as I might want to output from other devices with line out.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

pretty much any audio interface with up-to-date ASIO drivers will work fine with Reaper - the problem with getting a cast-iron recommendation is that there are so many variables with PC hardware & set-up that there is a slim chance that any interface you choose may not play nicely with your particular machine.
I would suggest you state your budget and whether low-latency performance (maybe you want to play live or monitor through fx, for example) are important to you.
For my two pence, i'd say you can't go wrong with RME, but some people feel them to be expensive, though it's a price worth paying if you want stability, longevity etc (in my opinion)

you also might want to mention what connection format you are looking for - USB, thunderbolt, PCIe etc.

Thanks, it would be through USB, I wouldn’t be playing live, I would be recording one track at a time, and that would be either with my keyboard though MIDI/USB, or my guitar, or a mic through XLR. I am using Komplete plugins so everything would be running through the various Komplete plugins. Thinking about it I may not need RCA input as I probably wouldn’t need that.

As far as budget goes I’m not looking to spend a vast amount but I don’t want to go super cheap either. But I had hoped that I wouldn’t have to go massively expensive with the above requirements.

Here is something that I found in one minute it may apply to you.
Domzy had this in his post

"For the MAudio Windows 10 drivers, you can get it from here: https://www.driverdr.com/maudio-drivers/. I have the Fast Track Ultra 8R linked to a laptop and have installed the latest driver that is on Avid's website and it works without any problems whatsoever."

I did try upgrading the drivers but unfortunately it didn’t seem to solve the issue for me. It may have been caused by something else that I couldn’t find.

Thanks for the tip about the Kontrol 1, I think I’ll give that a try, you would hope it would work well given that it’s the same company.

I've been using a Behringer UMC1820 since my Delta66 then TASCAM 16x08 died.

I don't need simultaneous inputs either, but I find it handy to have the different inputs' gain settings in place when I switch instruments.

The UMC404 is highly praised in some circles.

Thanks, I am intrigued by the 404, especially given that it’s a similar price to the Komplete.

I’m tempted by the 202 and the 22:

https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0AUX

Not entirely sure what the benefit would be of the 202 over the 22?

twice as many (2) mic pre-amps, and it can do a higher sample rate - you might not need them now, but probably worth considering if you might need these later

Good point, think the 202 will do the trick nicely

Thanks everyone, much appreciated!

I can't make a specific recommendation but one feature I'd look for is zero-latency direct-hardware monitoring.

If you're not "monitoring" (like playing guitar through an amp) that's not necessary, but otherwise it's nice to avoid latency issues.

and also an RCA input as I might want to output from other devices with line out.
RCA connectors are rare but many interfaces have switchable mic/line or mic/instrument inputs. And the instrument input/setting often doubles as a line input (with higher impedance than a "standard" line input, but that's no problem).

Most of these also have an XLR/TRS/TS combo connector and RCA-to-TS adapters are common & cheap.

Since most line-signals are stereo you'd need at least two inputs.

That’s great, thanks for that, I’ll check the latency on the 202

202 has a zero latency monitor but it's quite limited, it treats the two ins as a stereo pair so if you plug a mic in the direct monitor will be in one ear only.
Other budget interfaces get around this by making all monitoring mono (both ears but no good for monitoring a full stereo signal through)

Audient EVO4 has independent panning of both channels while direct monitoring and is £99.

I've been very happy with my Presonus Studio 26c. Plug and play install on Windows 10 and no issues so far.

About $200.00 USD.

Hello,
I have my M-AUDIO FAST ULTRA 8R with latest AVID windows driver (JUly 2013). It crashes the system (Windows 10) completely every now and then,.. say, once a day....

What driver do you mention? I can't find any for this audio interface in driverdr.com

I suspect that this device (the FAST ULTRA 8R) is obsolete and can be no longer used without risk (of crashing the system, I mean)

thanks
