best virtual midi cable?
I haven't needed one in a long time. I used to use MIDI OX, but that seems pretty out of date now.
Can anyone suggest what virtual MIDI cable I should be using to connect things that wont talk MIDI otherwise? Thanks.
FYI, I'm trying to connect GECO running off my Leap Motion controller into Reaper, or any softsynth/FX/amp sim.

I don't know about 'should', but I'm using LoopBe1 without problems on my Win 7 64 system.

much better is:
http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software.html
loopMIDI
Virtual MIDI for Windows XP up to Windows 8, 32 and 64 bit with the ability to dynamically create and destroy freely nameable MIDI-ports.
-----------
And if you also need a little quick MIDI patchbay, transforming, filter, routing, clock......
as in reaper: right click everything

Thanks for the replies.
I ended up using loopBe, because it was recommended by the software, and it was free. It did seem a little limiting, though, and the loopMIDI's multi-purpouse-fulness (a word?) appeals to me.
The loopBe does work, though. Not sure if I should install both at once, sometimes these types of things conflict.
One more thing - does loopMIDI do something like, transform MIDI CC into MIDI notes? That is my next goal, as the Geco software that drives the Leap Motion controller only generates MIDI CC, not note triggers, which is a major bummer. I know there are scripts I can use in various synths, but I'd like a quick, universal solution if there is one.
Thanks again.

The difference is that the fantastic Midiloop ports driver
from tobias-erichsen do not need to be permanently active
and on top of near unlimited virtual ports can be created
and named at runtime as need and only then visible as a V. Midi driver in WIN.

Hah, found the other Leap Motion user here! High five!
(I also own GECO, but haven't used it in a while... didn't want to wait for 14-bit support and hacked up a bunch of custom control tools to do similar stuff.)
Also, this reminds me how cool it is that OS X natively includes virtual MIDI ports. Which perhaps makes "OS X" the very best answer to your original question.

Woohoo! We should form a Leap Motion support group or something... Actually I've only had it for two days, and I was somewhat incensed when I discovered that I had to PAY to use the damn thing in any meaningful way. I tend to not buy apps, I'm not in the whole "pay to use something on a device you paid for and also pay to use monthly" Apple camp.
So instead of getting vertigo ("Leap Motion Sickness" was the prototype name, apparently), I'll just use it as a MIDI controller. If I can get it working in the way I imagine, I have high hopes for it.
I have already succeeded in getting it to perform mod- and pitch-wheel functions, which is something I have NEVER been able to successfully accomplish for my guitar synth. So that is actually quite huge.
If I can get it to trigger MIDI notes with one hand, while doing modulating functions with the other, and it doesn't glitch out, I think I will be a happy customer!
Check out this video, this guy is triggering MIDI notes and performing with it exclusively. As a musical performance, it's on the mild side, but it's an impressive proof-of-concept just the same.
