Default Low Latency PDC mode

Hi

I'm using reaper to make tracks essentially in realtime with effects and a large part of my VST collection is IK multimedia plugs.

They mostly add 1 or 2 samples latency but reaper adds a whole buffer length.

Can we have a mode where it just adds the latency of the plugin instead?

I'm not sure of the technicalities but it'd sure be lovely not to worry about adding these plugs.

I don't think you can get around the inherit latency caused by the audio engine buffer size, which is usually something between 64 to 1024 samples depending on your Prefs > Audio > Device > block size or sound card driver setting.

To temporarily disable all extra latency inducing plugins in monitored signal chains you can use this script:

I'm not talking about audio card latency - this is different. It adds an audio card buffer-sized chunk for every plugin in the chain, even if the plugin only adds 1 sample - just dont know why reaper can't add the latency of the plugins and only use an extra buffer if the latency is long enough to justify it?

Or maybe I'm just not understanding this.

This is being worked on, IIUC. There seems to be a "feature branch" for this that is sometimes mentioned in the pre-release forum.

You can already do this on a per plugin level, but not globally or per-track yet.
Right click In/Out > PDC > Disable PDC
It will now be delayed only by the amount of samples displayed in the bottom left 16/256 for example.

A new concept for this is worked on. See the "prerelease" forum, any maybe d/l an appropriate prerelease version of Reaper's.
