Congratulations! You`re gonna love the change once you get used to it.

Quite a few people on here made the same choice as you & are for the most parert very happy.
Are you migrating to Win7 or going the whole hawg to win 10? Pro or Home?

I plan to go to Windows 10 Pro ... but I've had some problems with the network on my elderly machines - so for them I only go to Build 1709 and the newer ones to build 1803 ...

Now I'll replace the PHASE88 it in the rack and take a look ;-))

What's the major differences from 4.76 to 5.95 ?

What do you use the Startlett Control for ?

To be honest, I use a fraction of Reapers features, so I would probably not notice any difference.

My setup is quite static. I have one mic and two DI box/Guitars connected at all times.
Planning to get another DI for the bass.
I don't touch the scarlet HW/SW except when major window upgrades sets everything to default.

I see you joined 2009, why newbieland

I've recently returned to home recording after a nine year "break" and I bought a Scarlett 2i2. I'm just about at the end of my evaluation period for Reaper and intend to buy it soon.

For me, as a 63 year old "sort of newbie" there's something of a learning curve but I'm getting there and enjoying it a lot.

I'm just like you ... on for a short periode and then off for a too long periode ;-))

Right now I have my brain wrapped around setting up the 18i20 with the control and so I can see it in Reaper ...

Yes, that's the thing with home recording. Whatever hardware and software you use, you have to get it set up properly at the beginning. On both occassions when I started home recording I had this to deal with.

Second time around though, things had moved on and I found things were more "plug and play" but you still need to take care with drivers and buffer size etc. Once you get it sorted it's fine. Good Luck!

I have the 18i20 gen II

you can quickly setup three different monitor mixes with Scarlett Control. Headphone 1 and 2 and the monitor outs (1 and 2). In Control you select the output and mix each track's level for each one. So for instance, singer can get more of them in one mix, more bass and drums for the rhythm section, and more guitars for them on the other. You can add more outputs if you need to

I have some problems using my OLD Reaper files from my old machine here on the new one - some files are missing ;-((

Obviously on the old machine I have NOT stored "stuff" so I can take a project to another machine and work it there - I think that's bad !

BUT on the other hand ...

I think the projects will be "pumped up" with the SAME "stuff" and then take up TOO MUCH disc space.

When you save a project the save-file dialog have checkmarks for controlling "how much stuff" - see attachment R21.

In the preferences you can do something similar - see attachment R22.

Question:

Which checkmarks is "best practice" to HAVE or NOT have - maybe ALL of them OR NONE of them ?

I like to use (in R21) 'Move media' because you won't lose it & it takes up less HD space rather than 'Copy' & create a sub directory so everything is together!,
R22 is the same as mine so??.

And when that's the case are there any goods in the bundle following the 18i20 that's worth installing ?
