Would it be easier to follow if the off buttons were not gray?

I really preffer the one from the first post.
The buttons are more readable and less stressing (IMVHO).
Nice theme!

At first reading, I didn't agree with this, but now I can see what antiClick is saying. I can see that you are trying to make all of the buttons match, which is good. But, for some reason, the new buttons do seem to stress the eye more than the default theme's buttons did. The new buttons seem to fight with the faders for attention. With the old buttons, the faders appeared more prominent and your eyes didn't fight to figure out where to look. Perhaps this is because the new buttons have a bolder white text that attracts the eye.
It's still a great theme and I will happily use it I appreciate your work!

Here's another teaser...
Took off some contrast out of the push buttons. Almost finished the "Track Section". As promised, everything is alpha-blended, you can notice the button's "shade" is in relation with the background their lying on! (Track buttons are lighter, mix buttons are darker).
Here is what I have to say about the input you guys gave me->
I did tame off the buttons, you guys were right, they were too much "in your face", they needed to be "calmed down".
The meters hasn't changed since day one... I don't get why some of you like the first screenshot better as their the same!!! (The only thing I added is the very dark shade, like the leds are off).
As for huge faders, it all depends. I'm using a dual head system with 2 22" screens, I've got a dedicated screen for mixing... Those faders are not oversized at all when the mixer is BIG!
The symbols I used on the buttons are maybe not the best but they're quickly readable. The "I/O" symbol was used for sends as the original simply had "IO" on it and I liked the look. The weird "A" with a circle on top was my attempt of making an icon for "Env", It does look a "bit" like an envelope... Maybe we'll improve later.
So far, that skin is simply splendid on a dual head setup with a big mixer. I still got some stuff to finish off and more ajustements to do. Thanks all for the input, I'll keep you posted, as always.

+1000, that will be my theme here for sure. Looks VERY close to Protools 8 which is VERY easy on the eyes
Great work!!

Im really liking this too! Are you intending on doing much with the rest of the area around the toolbar, timeline borders, media peaks/bg, midi editor etc? it still looks great, but personally im not into green....if everything else was a more neutral, grey or complimenting colour i think it would kick even more arse.
I think this is definitely a theme for "getting down to business"...im currently using the 2studio theme, which is fantastic, but i found it a little distracting after a while...whereas this (minus the green...sorry) would be a nice balance between "pretty" and functional.

Well, I kinda like the bright/high contrast meters... But I do think that they're turning to red way too fast. I tamed them out with bright orange (like ProTools 8) and it blends perfectly now. For those who don't like the colors and/or the interlacing, fear not, it's all configurable in the "Preference" panel. I'm slowly getting there.

Ouch, lots more work that I thought it would be. I shamelessly stole some Toolbar buttons that looked pretty much like the ones I wanted to do... I'll credit the author, no worries! (Or simply redo them).
I still got the transport bar and some more buttons to edit, but we're getting there! Another screenshot will be probably posted tomorrow when I'm done with the transport bar.
Cheers

What I'd replace are the pan slider. Think some LEDs could fit more simple.

Hey folks, sorry for not giving updates, I almost lost ALL of my data on a hard disk crash this weekend!!! Man, those who don't know "GetDataBack" should invest and buy this software, is f**king brilliant, I restored all of my files, I had heavy NTFS corruption, the partition tables were gone, I FLIPPED OUT. So, I got to restore all of my files without loss, I just got to reinstall everything! I should be back on track soon!

Everyone should be backing up there stuff...
...especially because our fellow Cockos founder created this wonderful tool for us all to use Free of Charge.
You all most likely have an old hard drive laying around, so use that with this awesome software.

Please add the dB= metering on the mixer sliders
Like in the original Protools8 theme there are two rulers. One is to 0dB Digital meter and the other to +12 dB.
Look at the attachment!
It is really helpful when mixing...

Dimitar-
He can't add the dB marks next to the fader_bg and the mcp_vu, as they would be inaccurate when the mixer was resized any size, but the size they were created for. Until Cockos gives themers overlay support for meters and fader_bgs then this is not possible. BTW- use PNG graphics, not JPEGs, as the detail is enhanced, especially on small pics

Yes, I thought about it, the only problem is that Reaper's mixing board is dynamic and can strech the graphics to fit the mix window. I might look bad, real bad. But, I'll investigate to see if I could do it.

*HERE IT IS* (Well, sorta)
Hello guys,
So, finally, here's the first beta of my DigiDesign skin! It's called "Beta1" and it's starting to be usable. There's still some buttons left to do. I accelerated this release by shamelessly stealing the toolbar and transport buttons from "Stumn" (kudo's to you, excellent theme!)
Torture it a little bit, I'll continue working on it while you guys enjoy the new look. Comments are welcome.
Cheers

Looking good!
Hi Khorus,
This theme is looking great. Assuming you change the toolbar icons, etc to match (although I agree Stumn is an amazing theme), only a couple of things stick out to me. I'm not a PT user myself, so maybe you are doing this to emulate PT, but I'd really prefer that the TCP gray was the same darkness as the mixer. It looks odd to me to have one lighter than the other. But, more importantly, I think the faders on the TCP (both volume and pan) should be a reasonable amount smaller than the ones on the mixer. Just my opinion though...
Great work so far!

been keen to try this one -
looking good!
i'd echo calls for tcp faders to be reduced. mcp ones are sweet tho, don't touch em!.
one thing, could the arm button be a bit redder or noticable when track is armed?. no idea what PT8 looks like but just a thought.
am sure the transport and toolbar buttons will be good too.
yum. thanks for the hard work.

You´re very talented, Khorus. Thank you for your astonishing contribution. It baffles me sometimes how spoilt we are with these free efforts. Gotta love the Internet!
One thing though, one of the reasons I went all DAW was to avoid these timeconsuming little things, like finding the tape in the studio to put on the mixer. Do you think you could mod your theme to not have this sticky marker tape on the otherwise clean layout? They´re a bit "kitschy", and remind me of darker ages :-)
Just my small opinion.

Some thoughts...
Khorus,
Nice work thus far, really nice. Some thoughts:
1. Ditch the tape, although cool, REAPER doesn't support it well at the moment when you add color to it (though your call, obviously)
2. Like the others have said, narrow the tcp faders, but on both axis (x and y)
3. Don't forget the little stuff, you know when you arm automation and the global automation, oh, and the acp (envelope lanes)
Looking pretty hot though. Maybe you can try to mimic PT's items a bit better.

Please add a different color of the monitor button when it is ON
...and I still dream about the dB scale on the meters...
