Default Messed Up

Hi
A new song (https://soundcloud.com/mikaelsundh/messed-up)
Guitar based this time
This time I tried out Kazrog's amp sims instead of the usual BIAS.
Any comment appreciated.

Hey.

I like it. I can't comment on the change of amps, I don't know them and their sound...

Perhaps a bit more bottom would drive the song a bit.

Also, I loaded it into Reaper and had a look at the mid vs side, and, as I suspected not much is going on in the sides. This makes for a rather flat, mono-like songs.

Just for fun, i duplicated the track, loaded Voxengo's Stereo free VSt and dialed in the Vocal setting(it's the less drastic) and bingo some neat sounds popped up in the sides. I muted the mid and blended those sides with the main track.

Then, for fun again, i duplicated the track, low passed all but the bottom, compressed, and blended that back with the main track.

I dialed in a bit of delay and blended that in the mix.

Added, Ferrox vst (some classic tape emulation) and glued the mix with a compressor limiter.

This is what I got - i hope you don't mind? It was just for demonstration purposes:

Had i had the track i would of added more bass and more kick, a bit more vocal, and added some stereo effects in some places. But, it was fun to pseudo-master the song (not that i really know what i'm doing...)

hehehe

That's completely unlike Gary Numan.

I like what RDBOIS has done with this, very clever. The original feels to be rather on one level. I can visualise a slightly busier bassline that doesn't just follow the rhythm guitar strokes that would help the arrangement too. Happily the guitar still sounds like you!

Enjoyed this! Some great energy.. What's there not to love about a guitar driven rock song??!!??

I echo previous comments about the mix sounding a little narrow - and more bass would definitely compliment this song.

As for the guitars - they sounded good. I'm not a big fan of Kazrog ampsims, personally. I've had his Recabinet plug for years and always find his cabs way too dark to fit a mix. Was this Thermionik? I tried those, Bias, TH3 and S-GEAR demos recently - but can never pull the trigger to buy one b/c the sound i get from free ampsims/impulses is just too close and doesn't justify the $$. However, of that list - i found TH3 to be the software i liked the best. UAD makes some really good stuff too, but again - $200 for something that's close to free is hard to justify (for me).

That's great RDBOIS!
I have had big problem with this one, mainly loudness.
I have to deep down in this mid/side thing.
I know I have read/saw some tutorial about this and totally forgot it
Thanks for your effort.
