A new experimental feature has been released:

Dragonfly Reverb 1.1.0: Decay Time Dial

This introduces a new dial that controls the decay time independent of the room size.

It should be backward compatible, if you load it in projects that used Dragonfly 1.0.0, it is programmed to set the decay time based on the preset you had picked.

Unfortunately I don't think that this fixes the bugs that have been reported, but I am still looking into fixing them.

Nice! This could easily be my go-to reverb now. That's a pretty big feature which was just added. In case anyone doesn't realize: it can make this have long reverbs, up to 10 seconds long.

Bugs I noticed:

...
Thanks for testing this out again. At least none of those seem like absolute show stopper bugs. I think I might be on to something with the white spectrogram bug, and the one about the width dial shouldn't be too hard. I don't have a clue about the 10Hz one, that's really weird, but if you find a way to reproduce it, please let me know.

Will do! Thanks for continuing to improve on this plugin!

And yeah, it's stable and it can save presets fine etc., so it has a home in my VST folder.

Could you (and/or anybody else) try out v1.1.1? It fixes the problem with the width dial, and possibly fixes the spectrogram display bug, which I'm not getting on Ardour anymore.

Oops I was wrong, the width bug isn't fixed. I don't know why I thought it was before. I can reproduce it consistently.

Messing with it for only a couple of minutes and it already sounds awesome!
My feedback:
- Let me double click values to type in a value
- Let me switch between % view and dB view for the Dry/Early/Late faders.
- Increase the max value of Low Cut
- Dry fader should not change in value when browsing the built in presets. (It makes more sense this way, so I can compare presets while the Dry faders stays and my desired value like 100% or 0%)
- Let me control the volume of Early and Late faders at the same time, either with a Wet fader, volume knob, or link function like the one in Waves L1.

I don't know what version you're using, but the dry/wet faders do remain where they are when browsing the built-in presets. (Earlier versions didn't have this ability.)

Anyway let's not get carried away with requests. This is a free plugin, after all. I don't think Michael is trying to expand its functionality so much as ensure it works correctly.

Uhh... I don't think this specific one is fixed, I'll see what I can do. As usual, please try to reproduce it on the latest, and let me know if you find steps that reliably cause it.

The width bug is fixed, thanks! I guess it's about time to update the links so people are directed to version 1.1.2

About the predelay time one...that was my imagination. Sorry! Depending on the source material I was testing and the diffuse/spin/wander, I was probably interpreting a general "slapback" of the reverb (which was my own fault for the settings I used) as "predelay".

To anyone who hasn't used this reverb yet: Check out this video of Eventide UltraReverb. I took the audio from that clip, put it in Reaper, separated the wet examples from the dry examples (put them on separate tracks), and then put Dragonfly on the track with the dry examples. I was able to mimic all of the sounds of that reverb with Dragonfly, except the most extreme ones (the ones with distortion, delay, or "infinite decay" due to lots of feedback)...and I'm reasonably certain I could mimic those too, by using other plugins in series for the delay/distortion/compression.

I'm blushing. Thank you!

I certainly don't feel the need for that, since the way I see it is: you're doing all the work and I'm getting it for free. But I'm honored!

You have repeatedly found bugs that I wouldn't have been aware of otherwise. Every developer needs a really brutal QA.

Maybe you could change the 3 fader bars from the left into Wet, Dry and Early-Late; and that the Dry one wouldn't get stored in the presets.

Big Thanks for developing this!

In the latest release, the presets do not change any of the sliders. It was the most simple way I could think of to allow people to explore to presets without disrupting the mix every time.

Yeah the way it currently is, it works very well. If you want to set the dry slider all the way down and then check the different built-in presets, the dry slider stays all the way down. If you save a preset in Reaper it will respect whatever you have set the dry slider to. So it is only a matter of how you save your presets in Reaper.

I tried this for a while last night, pretty cool! Not sure what the different controls do exactly. Seemed a bit clangy, as I would expect, but NOT muddy, like most of them.

I would love to see some tail shape control, but seems great actually

How you shape the lows will be important. If the lows end up crossing into the mids too much, and you "multiply" the lows, you'll get more mids. Set low crossover to 200 Hz, don't multiply it too much.

For longer decay times, you might also want to increase the diffuse control and watch that the spin isn't set too fast.

If you find there's too much mids still, dip the mids with a plugin before Dragonfly.

If you want to smooth the highs carefully, add Airwindows Lowpass after Dragonfly (it's not your usual lowpass).

Spin and Wander are sibling parameters that influence how the late tail is modulated. They influence stereo panning and chorus effect. To better understand them, use a large size, long delay, and probably around 50% diffuse.
Start out with 1hz spin and 0ms wander. Play an abrupt percussive sound. You should hear the tail panning left to right to left at a rate of 1hz. Gently increase the wander and you should hear multiple layers tails spread out from each other, each panning at the spin rate.

I was using the one in the main post (I believe its 1.0.0).
And these are not requests, it's feedback, constructive criticism to create a better product.

Understood. They're not bad suggestions. I may end up implementing some of them at some point in the future.
