Default OT: anyone using WASAPI?

Slightly off topic, but I was wondering whether anyone here has used WASAPI for a project. I have been writing some managed .NET wrappers over the Vista CoreAudio interfaces to try them out as an alternative to the waveOut API's, but was surprised to find that WASAPI doesn't do any sample rate conversion for you - you have to match whatever sample rate is currently in operation on the device if you use shared mode.

MS claim that this is because WASAPI is targetted at Pro Audio applications, but with ASIO and WDM kernel streaming already being used by the vast majority of Windows DAWs, I struggle to see who would actually use WASAPI and why. For example, would there be any point in REAPER adding WASAPI as an output option?
