Default Need A New Computer

I want to get my wife a new computer. Her's has Windows Vista and she really needs something better. She doesn't do much with it except play solitaire and check out Facebook so I'm not looking for anything super expensive. And she really only needs the tower, preferably WIn 7 with no fancy extras. Any recommendations?

Thank you, one and all!

If all she wants is to play solitaire and check facebook just get her a nice tablet with a nice case and save your cash. You can attach a keyboard or use voice to text.

Also, Win7 will cease to be supported in the not too distant future, which means security holes. I prefer it as well, but for someone who doesn't have a lot of computer experience, go with Win10 or another OS that's less prone to malware.

Thanks guys! I'm also looking for reputable place to buy online. Guess I should have put that in the OP...

I buy a lot from Amaz and Wmart, but I have seen deals elsewhere.

I don't believe that matters so much anymore.

The biggest problem you will face is if you go into a store and a salesman starts up-selling you.

It's good to buy from a place that has brick-and-mortar, so you can take something back that isn't working and speak to someone face-to-face, and avoid a bunch of wait and shipping/return charges.

I personally like to read a lot of reviews before I buy something.

Buttbook and solitaire?

Ipad 4th gen for $100 on Ebay. You can find them near mint for that price.

Or a small new SSD for under $100 and a Linux install for the old machine. Make it run like it never has before! (Some actual work required here though.) The iPad would probably seem cooler though and has a decent camera and such.

I looked on Walmart's site. My wife works there part time so she gets a discount. Forgot about Amazon so thanks for the reminder!

Walmart and Amazon won't be able to help with individual computer part service or configuration etc., so maybe Micro Center (as I told you in the PMs) is a better choice if you want any kind of service in the future.

Even if I could confirm that the product wasn't a facsimile bootleg, I wouldn't buy anything from Wallmart (their butthole logo is fitting) or Best Buy (aka Worst Purchase).

Best place to buy computer stuff online? New Egg.

I've done business with them for years, never had any problems. Everything from components to build gaming systems, to factory built PC's and laptops.

All very good tips and I thank you all! I'm still in the shopping around phase so still haven't made up my mind. Just trying to find something reasonably priced that fits her needs.
