Renaissance DeEsser any good
Hi everyone
Am looking for a De-Esser and found Renaissance by waves.
Can anyone recommend it, or is there better for the money,
it seems cheap enough though.
To get this plug in for a test is a real pain,
you have to download a 200mb interface so you can then
download the plug in, which in its self took ages too.
This just seems over kill for a plug in, and who knows
what resources it uses, has anyone used this plug-in and
does it hog resources, I did not try it yet because am rather
put off with so much to download, wondering if its also going to be a hog.
Thanks to all

The Download\installation software (Waves Central) is pretty stock for software that is licensed on a per machine basis. It least you don't need an ilok.
I don't use the de-esser, but I do use other Renaissance plugins and they are relatively CPU light, if you do go to the trouble of downloading Waves Central and the plugin, you may as well just try it out, it won't break your machine.

Thanks Granite, I will get around to trying it.
I just did not expect such a download, I opened the task manager
in windows, and there was Ten downloads taking place under the
heading for the Waves Central program as it was downloading the
plug-in, now all of this in comparison to downloading Reaper seemed
way more excessive to me, that kind of spooked me, Reaper was a much
smaller download.
Oh yes, I do not like ilok at all, and so far have avoided all products
that require this, ilok even froze my computer during my initial trial
of one plug-in, the plug-in never even loaded as ilok froze the computer
as soon as it opened, that ended ilok for me.

Even though REAPER’s ReaPlugs are “better” than most stock plugins out there (I loved Samplitude’s back in the days, though), in most situations I wind up with some third party plugin. I’m also not a fan of recommending stock plugins over “premium” plugins just for the heck of it (I sometimes find it annoying when someone’s asking for a let’s say a versatile chorus or dedicated limiter, and all the fan boys line up and shout “JS! JS! IT’S AS GOOD AS ANY! JS! JS!” ...)
But ... With, so far, one exception: ever since my first completed REAPER project (2009) I have never used any other plugin than ReaFir for de-essing/desibilizing. The tricky part with ReaFir is that you have to understand the plugin, because it’s quite complex. It’s not a drag-set-and-voilà plugin. You need to tweak it carefully. But doing so right, ReaFir is a winner.

Depends entirely on your needs and budget.
Renaissance DeEsser is fine. It works well, and if you get it cheap, it's more than worth it. It is a flavour, and there are many of them.
Toneboosters Sibilance is good. You can set that up really well too if need be. Harrison AVA DeEsser is flexible and good too. Fabfilter DS is good. Weiss DS1 is good.
ReaComp is a good deesser too. Try these settings.

Kenny's De-Esser with ReaEQ and ReaComp works well for me.

If there are only a few instances, spectral edit supposedly provides the most flexible way to deal with Ses.
