Default 16+ channel audio interface

Hey gang, I'm new to the forum and to Reaper but I love what I'm experiencing so far. I just have a quick question. I'm looking for a 16, 18, or 20 channel audio interface for under $700 that works consistently well with Reaper so that I can experiment with it. I'm recording several bands and solo acts who use the usual drums, guitars, vocals, and a midi electric piano. I'm not looking for bells and whistles as much as consistently good results within Reaper. I've gotten a lot out of Kenny Gioia's tutorials so I'd really like to know what he thinks would work well in the price range I'm looking at. Of course, I'm open to hearing what anyone with success with Reaper has been using in a multi-channel interface.

Much thanks!

Do you need 16 preamps?

For that budget, I think the Focusrite 18i Scarlett plus an octopre might be a solution. That's not a big budget for that many preamps... buying used could be a good idea. Do you have 20 mic's?

The Scarlett 18i20 plus a Behringer ADA8200 would be one of few combos in budget buying new....there aren't going to be tons of options at this price for so many mic pres.

Soundcraft 22 MTK could be a good option for just a little over budget and if a mixer format fits your space and needs.

Yes, have a look at Focusrite and Presounus interfaces with 1 to 2 ADAT in.

Thanks for the response. I've got 6 mics for drums and I've got another 4 to use for vocals, guitars etc.

Thank you all for responding! I just wanted to get a feel for what works well with Reaper and what stands out to me is that Focusrite and Behringer make products that can do the job. Thanks again.

Reaper is a generic DAW when it comes to questions like thiese.
It's pretty much no difference what DAW you're using for the interface combo.
