Default extra mouse buttons not recognized + shortcuts

Hi guys,

A question, for some odd reason my shortcut shift + space is not working. All the other shortcuts with shift + combinations do work.

Also, I am not able to assign actions to my alternate mouse buttons ( button 9 and 8 I believe). Reaper recognizes them as left click and mouse wheel.

I am running ubuntu 18.04 and in my os the extra mouse keys are recognized.

Anybody some idea's?

Many thanks!

This sort of thing is probably due to Linux "stealing" some shortcuts. You can change this using the "Window Manager Tweak" app.

First mentioned on this forum here:

Thanks for the tip.
I have this app also installed, but unfortunately no response. Still shift+space does not respond in reaper.

I just tried assigning shift+space to an action and wasn't able to do it either. (I'd never tried it when using Windows, so I don't know the expected behavior, but I can confirm what you're saying.) Shift+space isn't being used by my Linux install (as a system shortcut) either.

If I had extra mouse buttons I'd test those too. You might want to check what sort of support your mouse has in Linux just in case. See if it's a Reaper thing or not.

I will. Thanks for checking shift + space for me though!

Does it show button presses for all the buttons if you test with the "xev" program? On my distro to be found in the xorg-xev package.

Yes they are recognized. Here is the output:
left front button (on side) is 8
left back button (on side) is 9

If xev sees them, then there are X events created for them.

I just tried and also don't seem to be able to bind them to anything in reaper. My best guess is that this needs to be fixed in reaper. I suppose that it does work in windows?

Yes both things (shift+space and mouse buttons) work in my windows version of reaper.
I made a report in the linux bugs thread.
