I wish you hadn't deleted the post. This may not be the right forum, but as someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, any public acknowledgement is good. If you'd rather start up a discussion offline, please feel free to DM.

But if you want a general discussion about mental health issues you should choose a more fitting forum like "General Discussion" as this covers: "This is a forum to discuss all aspects of REAPER, and life"

Hope everything is okay.

Mental illness is no laughing matter. As time has gone on, I've learned about the various serious issues that friends and co-workers have had to deal with (depression, anxiety, narcolepsy, hoarding, drug-dependence, etc.)

Go to the "lounge" forum and post away. We'll support you as best we can. That's what its there for.

Here's a good discussion of this from Gearslutz from a while back. They have an off topic section so this kind of thing can get covered there.

Default dosnt everybody have 'mental' issues ?!?

Im not sure if depression is an illness or a normal reaction to a f*ed up life

we dont live in a very sane world
most people lose their minds just getting cut off in traffic

anybody else here yell at the tv when the news is on??

i am not specialist. I think depression is normal on small period of time, and is a message that our body/mind gives asking for a change. So we should be aware about the things we should change. There are traps tho:
things like: i need to do this, or be this ..

We don't have to be or achieve anything. Look at other animals, .. they just live , no past , no future. We are same but tend to split focus on present , with future and past

As someone with personal experience of this illness, I would make a couple of points :

1) Mental health problems are nothing to be ashsmed of and certainly not a sign of weakness.

2) Help is available : if you think you need it, seek it out.

mindfulness is paying attention to your breath and body
being present and aware in the present moment
letting your thoughts come and go without judgement
and realizing you have the same right to exist
as everybody else

so deeb you are zen indeed

I suffer from depression now and then. I hate it. I don't want to work, I don't want to do household chores. All I want to do is to sleep and watch movies wrapped in a blanket. My doctor prescribed me pills, but I don't take them as they might be addictive. So, I replaced them with Gold Bee CBD oil, and I should say, it works for me. Also, I do my best to lead a healthy lifestyle. Doing sports, eating healthy food and enough sleep really help me.

Struggled with depression for a long time. It became worse in the last 3 years or so due to various problems. I used to medicate myself with weed for a long time, but certain strains or prolong use made it much worse - became very isolated, days to even weeks with minimal contact, had psychotic episodes, lost friends, lovers, got mingled into all kind of shady entourages, gained a lot of weight.

Now i gave up weed for some time, but I was afraid to get into SSRIs so I found a supplement called 5HTP which helped a lot. Is a precursor to serotonin, its not addictive and quite cheap in my area. This particular brand is the best of all that i tried - https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-L.../dp/B0009ET9S6

Another good supplement is Ashwagandha, helps achieving calm and good sleep. Also from the brand above worked best. I tried not to take neither of them on a daily basis, i mean i took like 3-5 days to get a better mood, then stopped for a week, took again, stopped for a month, depending on the severity of the depressive episodes.

Another thing that really helped me some time ago was magic mushrooms, the ones that contains psilocybin - not in big doses, but microdoses every now and then. Recent studies have showed a big improvement in depression cases. They gave me a state of enhanced focus and creativity, along with energy and a lifted mood. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-...=1618441717850

I also used ketamine (illegal one) back in the days also in small doses, and now seems like FDA approved a drug based on esketamine, which is basically the same thing in a different form. Studies showed that works in patients who don't respond well on SSRIs, which can really give some very nasty moods in some people. Made me more focused and "in the moment", even though in large doses can be heavily psychedelic. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...ant-depression

Two things you should really stay away from - opioids (oxycodone, fentanyl, buprenorphine) and benzodiazepine (xanax). While they may work on the short term, they are both heavily addictive and they can really mess up your health. The first one numbs you down and have very nasty withdrawal symptoms, and the second really mess up your brain and can cause massive damage on the long run - See what happened to Jordan Peterson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp6D87AyMJc

Its important to have someone close, but unfortunately i know that is very hard to find people to care enough to stick with someone being in depression. People say they understand, but they really can't. Even though i had some social life, it was all more to keep myself busy.. wasn't felt understood or really cared for. It really helped me to mingle with obscure musicians, people more into the craft than into the "industry". Actually music helped me a lot, gave some meaning to my days. Another thing that helped me was helping others.

Psychotherapy also helps. It can give some new perspective on some issues that consume you. Some research said that psychotherapy under small doses of MDMA helped people with PTSD, look for it online.

And ofc, everyone says a healthy lifestyle, but i know how hard it is just to leave the bed, let alone going for a run or for sports. Healthy food helps ofc, and also does supplements of vitamin D (especially in the cold/rainy weather), zinc and magnesium (makes you more stress resilient).

I hope i helped, but please do your own research on the substances above, and their associations. For example under any circumstances DO NOT MIX SSRIs with serotonin inducers like MDMA, 5HTP, or magic mushrooms. They are REALLY DANGEROUS together.

Last but not least, I remember a story from a remote village where lived a community without depression. But that community took care of one another, listened, and tried to help members in distress. So maybe the more important thing is a sense of belonging and being cared for. Love still is the biggest motivation in life.

Better days are possible - been there, done that.
Big hug from someone who knows what you are getting through.

Can you describe how it helped you? It was very noticeable? I'm being pressured into getting on antidepressants but I'm very skeptical of industrial "cures" and even choosing a therapist is hard for me. I also self medicate but would rather not just numb out anymore. The problem still grows in the background. I've never been able to stick to vitamins because I can never tell that they're doing anything at all.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your experiences. It does help to see how others deal with it.

5HTP is a precursor to serotonin, which is a "feeling good" hormone. It helped reducing the anxiety and the feeling down and bring back some joy and functionality to my days. I usually took one on an empty stomach in the morning, it took 1 to 3 hours to have the effect but it worked everytime, and sometimes the good feeling lasted the next 1 or 2 days.

One thing that i didn't do, was to take more than one a day. I could, but i chose not to so I took breaks - days, weeks or even months without taking it because you can get tolerance to it. A friend of mine who went through xanax withdrawal told me he started to take 2 per day, but benzos withdrawal can be a living hell. On the package says you can take 2, 3 times a day, depending on how bad it is.

https://www.hormone.org/your-health-...ones/serotonin

I hope it helps, but i can't stress enough to not mix it with SSRIs because it can lead to serotonin syndrome which is a very dangerous disease. Better talk to your doctor about it, especially if you take other medications or have some other health conditions.

I wish you good days ahead.

Its really important to have some connection / compatibility with the therapist so you can open up and talk freely about your problems. Don't persist if the person doesn't feel right for you. I tried a few myself until i found one, not all therapists have a calling for it, and not all resonates with your way of communicating.

Therapy helped me see some issues in a new light, which took some weight off my shoulders. It can help a lot, depending on the severity and the cause of depression.

In addition to my depression which I've been fighting for years, I started experiencing sleeping issues. I don't know whether it is a coincidence, but it started when the pandemic began. I read that a lot of people suffer from various health problems today. To be honest, I don't understand why I have such a problem as I do sports, eat healthy food, etc. I thought about taking sleeping pills, but having read the description on the Canada Drugs site, they turned out to be meds that can be used only during a short period of time. I'm thinking about trying yoga and meditation. Does anyone have experience?
