unfortunately, it seems to be the result of a bug in the decoding/visualization of lossy audio formats in genral because it also happens if you zoom into the waveform of m4a, aac and ogg files (maybe also opus). It is independent of a video stream being present or not. For some reason, it doesn't seem to happen with mp3 files, though.
