Default Computer wont stay asleep anymore!

My computer has suddenly developed insomnia!

A bit off-topic but hoping someone here might have an idea?

Windows 10, Ryzen 3600, 16G RAM.

If I click restart (or hibernate) it will begin the process - black screen, then POST message pops up like it's crashed and rebooted - and windows 10 starts up again.

Windows doesn't have any crash log in the crash event thingy.

A few things have changed recently and things I've tried:-

I've rolled back my AMD video card driver from a recent update,
I've installed an NVMe drive
I've bought a new mouse
Windows did a big update (which I've rolled back from and then re-installed)
I've started the computer with no mouse/keyboard, no sound cards - no difference
I've tried different power plans
I've used the POWER troubleshooter in windows 10
I've installed AVG Free antivirus, done a scan - all looks fine
Task manager doesn't show any weird behaviour

NOTHING makes a difference. It's very frustrating, I mean I can hard power off with the switch but it's not very graceful.

any ideas? This literally started just a few days ago.

Thanks in advance.

Do you experience the same problem if you start Windows in Safe Mode?

Have you tried a Factory Reset? https://uk.pcmag.com/windows-xp-2/11...set-windows-10

no! in safe mode all is well,- also in Safe Mode + Networking,- no problem.

I guess that means this is a piece of hardware barfing somewhere.....

Thanks for the tip - I'm trying to avoid a factory reset unless absolutely necessary

OK the good news!

I found the culrpit!

the bad news

It seems like windows10 doesn't like firewire anymore. :*(

I've pulled my firewire card and now it's working beautifully.

Such a pain 'cos it was working fine apart from this 'keeping the computer awake' issue (and to be fair if I changed samplerate it could crash the system!)

I guess I'm now looking for a USB interface with super low latency and ADAT inputs.

SO ANNOYING when equipment is end of lifed like this. I've been using my Mackie Blackbird for years - its amazing! super super low latencies,- great piece of kit.

Ah well.

Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction.

With the Firewire device plugged in try a clean boot as detailed at https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...oot-in-windows and see if you get the same problem.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've bought a replacement audio card (ur816c) - the blackbird will be going on ebay.
