Default Deleted Audio Units Still Showing in FX Browser

Hi all,

I recently got a Mac, and having previously installed Reaper on PC I got it for Mac and I love it!
I also loved the easy integration of Audio Unit plugins, of which I downloaded a large number (mostly free) - until I realised that they would not be supported by Cubase or Pro Tools, one of which I plan to purchase very soon!

Now, I went back and removed all the plugins from the Compnents folder, and installed the VST versions instead, but all of the AU plugins (which no longer exist!) still show up in the FX browser, which I just find annoying!

QUESTION: Is there some way of clearing the Audio Unit cache in Reaper?

Thanks!

I'm not on Mac, but I suppose you can go to "Options -> Preferences -> Plug-ins".
Opposed to PC, there might be also a page "AU" amongst "VST".
Try (if it's available) "Clear cache/re-scan"

Go Options->"Show REAPER resource folder...", move all ini files starting with 'reaper-auplugins* to trash and restart REAPER.

Figured out that you can rescan specific FX types by right-clicking on their folders in the FX browser, thanks for your help though!

Waking this up, as it's close to the question I have; it is safe to delete AU's in general? I record with my MacBook Air, but mix/master/everything else on my desktop PC, and so my plugins are all VST. I'd like to be able to free up some disc space on the Mac, and since I don't use the AU's at all...

Probably best not to touch any of the apple specific AUs that came installed on the OS, they'll be used by other system programs. But uninstalling third party one's that were installed in addition to a VST version should not hurt anything. The one caveat is if you are planning on using logic, it only supports AU plugins.

Since the AU's are kinda installed in the OS I would sort of suspect that you'd really need to restart OSX...

That's what I wasn't sure of...whether the AU's were part of the OS, or came bundled w/Reaper. Since they apparently are OS-resident, I'm not gonna touch them (I've already cleaned out the 3rd-party AU's previously installed).

Thanks, guys!

I'm running into this today, I reformatted my macbook and restored my REAPER folder. There are several AU plugins which I did not bother to reinstall because I don't use them, but they still show in REAPER. Re-scanning even by right clicking on the AU section in the FX browser does not remove them.

I understand that removing INI files will likely work but wondering if there is a way to do this without messing with files.

EDIT: eh, removing the au related INI files worked fine and took 2 seconds.
