Default 4.01 reaper crashes often during SAVING. (XP)

comp:
windows XP sp3
reaper 4.01
soundcard e-mu 1820m
intel quad6600

never really had problems with reaper before. i love it. but since upgraded to 4.01 (which is neat!) it's been crashes while doing tasks like saving/rendering (also rendering audio process like..REVERSE audio etc). I have installed no new vst's, dxi's etc since the only change i've made on my system is installing reaper 4.01.

so i'll be doing the offensive process (SAVE AS!) working with little to no vsts(usually by voxengo) and like maybe MAYBE 4megs worth of audio. and reaper becomes non-responsive. so i'll have to end process. if i was to start reaper again.. the reaper.exe would load into the task manager..but reaper doesnt' actually start. then i would have to end that process but that process never ends..it also causes any other software that accesses any audio stuff to act funny too.

causing me to have to do a hard restart of the computer (which is getting annoying)

I tried downgrading to the 3.77 i had before. and the same thing happens (maybe less often).

eventvwr doesn't even show me anything meaningful in it's logs.

help?

Please provide the crash logs anyway. As you maybe have guessed, this isn't happening to everybody.

i found a thread on kvr of someone who has this problem in vista http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewto...a59d710921a381

part of the problem. there are no crash logs..there are no logs of reaper in event viewer. and because of the hard reset they just don't show up.

Have you tried to run Process Explorer when Reaper has crashed. Double-click Reaper.exe and look at the stack. It might give some hints as to what happened.

The "voicemute.sem" might identify the culprit. I searched my FX folder for it and it turned up in several locations. The following plugins has this file here on my system:
Minimogue
Phenome
BassRider
Mokafix\NoAmp
TS-808

Search for "voicemute.sem" in your plugin folder, any FX having a file with that name in its folder is a suspect for your crashes.

I'm not sure, but I think the presence of "voicemute.sem" means that the FX is SynthEdit built.

yes...that log was from a synthedit related crash.

but my problem is that when reaper crashes during the saving process...it doesn't leave a log..and my whole system needs a hard restart.

reaper is the only software on my system that has this issue. (and is the only music software running..VSTS included)

Hi,

I work on Windows 7 64-bit.

Phenome works unstable on reaper v 4.151:
1) after saving the project, closing reaper and re-opening again sometimes I cannot get Phenome UI. I only get bunch of horizontal sliders without descriptions in plug-in window. When I click UI button, nothing happens.
2) when I click Duplicate track command in reaper - UI magically appears
3) if I try to open reaper 32 bit with Phenome VST in chain, reaper hangs.

I'm not sure if this is a reaper or phenome related issue.

Cheers

M.
