Default need help - playback setlist for fire artist

Hello,

i hope my english is good enough to describe my problem.....

a friend of me is a fire artist, what means, that she juggles with different tools on fire....see the picture below..

so she needs a playback/soundtrack for her show, and i like to do this with reaper.

The problem is, when one song is over she needs a little time to get an other tool. So a soundtrack like a little loop of a heartbeat or something ist needed during the break.

So when the first song is over, it have to repeat the loop. And if she´s ready to go the next song has to start.

What i imagine/need:
a track for each song, and a track for the loop.
define the loop as a region. and if the playback come to a region, then repeat/loop the region. .....then a toggle off, to go to the next song......and so on...
and the toggle off switch is controlled by a key command or a midi controller

i hope it´s not complete senseless, what i tried to describe.

any idea for the right actions i have to use, or a total different solution?

thanks

Simon

Why so complicated?

All music on one track, with a basic start/stop button would run this, I think.

But, me being me, I probably overlooked something...

Try the SWS Region playlist.

Do you intend to use a hardware device to trigger the start of a "song" ?

thank you...but you overlooked the loop during the performance "break"

the length of the break, to get another tool or even applause varies

so the playback has to be in this loop "trap" after the song. And if the artist is ready to go, the next song has to start.

I´ve seen the region playlist, but i have no idea, how i can control the loop count....

yes i do....a hardware device to trigger it or a simple key command...

I don´t want to go to every show, so i´d make a portable install of reaper, they can use on any laptop...

If you want to have some "illiterate" to do this for the artist's show, I strongly recommend to provide a hardware device to trigger the songs (Buttons, Pads or Foot pedals, a cheap Midi keyboard might do as well).

I am not experienced with "looping" and "song firing" applications, but there have been a lot of threads in these forums about such things (this is where I learned about "region playlist", which I do believe can do loops including loop count -> https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=208818#4 ). You might also consider "Playtime" -> https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=149712 , and "Driven by Moss" -> https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=206610 .

Ah, yes. I missed the looping hartbeat.

But still, you don't even need Reaper. I could do it with nothing more than Applescript. Or something as simple as some scripting and mplayer on Linux.

Press button
Start playing first track
Pres button
Loop till next button press
Press button
Play next track
....
Double press button
Stop.

I think that's overcomplicating things.

I'd probably go with an mp3 player.

Make a playlist where very other track is the loop going for longer than you'll ever need. Skip the loop to the next track when she is ready for the next part of her act.

That could be even simpler...

I think Reaper is perfectly suited for that kind of problem.

Set regions for the 'loop traps',

Then use sws marker action to trigger some custom action :http://www.sws-extension.org/markeractions.php

And make it trigger that custom action :
View : Move edit cursor to play cursor
script: Thonex_Set time selection to region at edit cursor.lua (foud in reapack)
Transport: Toggle repeat

Then you just have to hit Repeat to go out of loop

Seems to work here.

Make sure cycle or loop is on ,

The key actions to use I think would be sws action “go to prev region” and “go to next region” as they set the time line selection to the playing or next region as this helps with looping a break . Assign/ learn these to your midi controller or keyboard .

Like above use sws marker actions .
You want to insert a marker near the end of the song regions and assign it the “sws go to next region” as this will jump to your looping region.

Arranging your project in order so that it appears
Song region (marker action go to next region), looping break region , song region(marker action go to next region) , looping break region Etc .

Enabling smooth seeking will make things transition at end of region

Hello,

I found a perfect solution in the sws Region Playlist....

1. Make regions of each track/Loop
2. Set the Loop Count in the Region Playlist to infinite (only at the Loop regions)
3. Make a toolbarbutton with the Action: Play next Region smooth seek , to Break the Loop Trap

That's the easiest solution of the Main Problem......., this Action can also be assigned to a key command or a Midi Controller
