Default How do I? - Multi-client MIDI

I've got a couple of old sofware editors and librarians for my old hardware synths, which I'd like to integrate more fully in to to my setup.

I'm stuck at making them work alongside Reaper thanks to the classic 'multi-client midi trap' I've installed LoopMIDI and MIDIRTP (although I think the latter isn't what I need) but can't work out what my config needs to be from here.

The synths are each on their own midi i/o and working fine with both Reaper and their respective standalone editors/librarians but I'm just looking for a final nudge in the right direction so that I can use all the toys together seamlessly. (indeed the best thing I could find here would be a JS/VST/Script wrapper that I could load the editor/librarian directly in to Reaper with - but I'll settle for it all just working right for now ;-))

Try this:

1) In LoopMIDI add multiple virtual MIDI ports via the [+] button
2) Use one of these LoopMIDI ports in each of the standalone editors/librarians
3) Enable the LoopMIDI ports in Reaper's Preferences > Audio > MIDI Devices and assign them to a Track

MIDIRTP
This is mainly for using MIDI over a network (between different computers).

Can you maybe post some software names as example?

Might be the case that some forum members are already using the same things with Reaper or have some additional hints ...

Thanks Solger,

I'll give it another try, I suspect I'm just over thinking it!

I'm using TX81Z Programmer (https://mgregory22.me/tx81z/programmer.html)

K5 librarian (http://www.kfuenf.org/en/librarian.html) Incidentally if anyone knows of a decent K5 editor I'd love to hear from you.

There's also a CZ Editor which I don't know where it came from!

In terms of MIDI interface it's a ESI M4UXL 4 porter (and I also use the midi interface on my axiom keyboard too).

While I'm on, if anyone knows a good editor for a Novation A-Station I'd love to hear about it.

What I'm missing here is how I associate the virtual midi port with the correct hardware i/o?

In Reaper I have my synths setup with tracktemplates where there's a folder (for tidyness) a midi track and an audio track (with the midi pointing to/from the hardware output and the audio obviously taking the correct soundcard input from the synth).

I guess the signal path would look something like this:

Hardware Synth [MIDI OUT] --> [MIDI IN] Standalone Editor [LoopMIDI Port 1 OUT] --> [LoopMIDI Port 1 IN] REAPER Track [MIDI OUT] --> [MIDI IN] Hardware Synth
