Default Reaper 3.78 won't start in 10.8.1 ML

Hi,

My 3.78 copy of Reaper won't start. I haven't used it in a while, and have upgraded to Mountain Lion. The app is stuck on the 'Initializing Main Window' splash screen. I have tried downloading and reinstalling the app after deleting the original instance.

Anyone got any ideas? Please!

Regards,

Simon.

A 2/3.x license, perhaps.

And imho, this sounds just like the sort of thing that seems appropriate for porting back to the latest 3.x release.

Still, do give 4.x a try.

Is 3.78 compiled to work on Intel Macs? If there is PPC code in it you are out of luck.

This was one of the changes in Mountain Lion. I suspect you upgraded from Snow Leopard or Lion, yes?

Hi Guys, thanks for posting.

Yes, I have a 2/3 license and was hoping to use that. I tries 4 amd it works great, but it's another $60. I did upgrade from SL to Lion and then to ML, actually maybe a fresh install of Lion, and then upgrade to ML. That PPC issue might be the cause, however I thought the 3.78 was for Intel Macs. Maybe there is still some PPC code in there?

Anyway, I am going to hold out a little longer for a fix!

Thanks!

The upgrade model is that you get all the revs of the version you bought, and the next one. After that, you choose to buy in again or not. It's only $60, after all.

If I were you I'd just upgrade. While they may go back and debug the older version, you really can't expect them to make things backwards-compatible forever. OS X has gone through a lot of changes, and likely will continue to. If you want to keep upgrading your OS, you're going to have to upgrade your software too.

Perhaps you should look at your ("Gatekeeper") setting in Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Allow applications downloaded from: *Anywhere*.

And Cockos should sign the 3.x app as well.

+ OSX: REAPER.app and ReaMote.app now have signatures for OSX 10.8

Default Reaper 4.261 on Mt. Lion 10.8.2

Upgraded a 2009 iMac from OSX 10.6.8 to Mt. Lion (crazy idea I know).
Reaper wouldn't launch well at all and crashed whenever I tried to open a saved or new project. It never showed the initializing splash screen. After going to preferences I'd loose all of the options in the apple MENU bar. Trashing preferences didn't help. At that point all I could do was quit.
Since I still have a working clone of my 10.6.8 Snow Leopard machine I decided to get brave. I copied the ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER/ directory to another location and deleted it (the entire ~/Library/Application Support/REAPER/ directory.
Reaper then was able to launch like a brand new install. I copied my reaper-license.rk file back in and I seem to have a licensed version of Reaper that now opens projects. I may try moving some of the other components back in on at a time but it may be fine to just leave it alone.
Using 32 bit version btw.
