Default item length is stuck at a weird length (picture included)

Whenever I insert an empty item (not midi item), it defaults to a very bizarre length, it is does not even fill out the last measure. I included a picture of this. How can I reset the default item length.

Just to clarify:

- How are you doing the insert exactly (via which menu or Action)?
- And do you have anything selected or perhaps an active Time Selection before inserting the empty item?

1. Just the standard "insert empty item" action. There is no difference when I do it from the action list or the menu.

2. No time selection / any other selections. Inserting a midi item does not have this behavior.

When I don't make a time selection the empty item is always 5 bars long (@ 4/4), I don't think you can change that, and manual just says, select a track, make a time selection, insert empty item.

Maybe request for an 'insert empty item default length' option?

Yeah but the default on mine isn't 5 bars long, its 3 bars and some fraction of the 4th. Very bizarre behavior. Check out the picture I added.

Ya, @ 6/8 I get 6.75 bars, length seems related to time sig somehow I guess?

If I change the BPM to 95 with a 4/4 time signature (as in your screenshot) the length of the empty item is the same here.
With 120 BPM and 4/4 it's 5 bars.


So as Edgemeal already mentioned, this seems to be related to the combination of BPM and Time Signature values.

One option for inserting an empty item with a custom length is making a Custom Action:


1) Install the Create time selection at edit cursor script via ReaPack: https://reapack.com/
2) Then run the Action Script: Lokasenna_Create time selection at edit cursor... .lua and let's say, as example, we use the following values:

• Length [3] [measures]
• Position [right of] the edit cursor

3) Press the [Save as action] button afterwards which should create an additional Action (in this case 'Script: Lokasenna_Create time selection 3 measures long, right of the edit cursor.lua').

4) Create a Custom Action with something like this

Script: Lokasenna_Create time selection 3 measures long, right of the edit cursor.lua <-- that's the one created in steps 2-3
Insert empty item
Time selection: Remove time selection

Now when using the Custom Action it should insert an Empty Item with the pre-set length.
