Default Dirac Live in Reaper 7.1.4

EDIT 2023: This info is no longer relevant as Dirac have revamped their surround routing, and made it much more logical and flexible. Below is for posterity only in case it's applicable for a similar issue.

I'm using Dirac Live in Reaper in a 7.1.4 configuration via VST3. Due to the collision of Dirac Processor, VST3 standard, and possibly Reaper's wildly different takes on channel order, getting the I/O correct was quite a bit of head scratching. Thanks to Reaper's flexibility in this, once I worked out the puzzle the fix was easy.

I leave this here to maybe save others time that could be better spent playing with their cat.

Essentially we have to route into Dirac Processor in Dirac Live's channel order (which follows no standard), and out of Processor in Steinberg/Nuendo's channel order (which is the same as Microsoft and BluRay but differs from Dolby Atmos).

This is to all achieve what I would say is the logical channel order (but I'm too unversed to quote SMPTE or EBU standards).

1. Left
2. Right
3. Center
4. LFE
5. Side Left
6. Side Right
7. Rear left
8. Rear right
9. Top front left
10. Top front right
11. Top rear left
12. Top rear right

Default Dirac Live

Hi. As you have used Dirac Live within Reaper I was wondering if this would be a way of using Qobuz or Tidal with DL and still output via ASIO to an external USB DAC. In your opinion would this work well? Would it require any other software. Thank you

From your post I take it you want to also listen to system audio and regular apps through Dirac Live, which you have inserted on Reaper master output. This can be achieved a few different ways, and compels you to do a bunch of research and testing.

Possible solutions include:
1. When installing Dirac Live include the system audio device option and make this your OS default sound output.
2. Use an interface with Built-in Loopback routing function (RME, Audient, Arturia).
3. Use software loopback routing (to bring system audio into a Reaper record armed input) for instance: Voicemeeter (Windows), Loopback or Blackhole (OSX)
