got it and ran it... a little confused as to why it created the track called pitch shifted with all the 'tracks' in it as takes?
I would have expected either a folder of all the shifted tracks or just one track that was them all combined...
maybe what I don't see is that the selected take it creates IS them all combined? Is that the case?

so guys... have you run this?
IF yes, can you explain to me what you see happen and why we get all the takes in one track instead of either all the tracks as one wav or all the takes as tracks in one folder... [both of those results are what the youtube shows]
I'd really like to see this lua added to so it does this after it runs:
1-select the track with all the takes
2-explode the takes to tracks
3-create a folder with all those tracks in it
4-delete the the track that it first made that was just the takes
OK ...we it could be I'm not understanding something about this cuz I hold spk77 in high regard and it could be I'm missing something about his intended result...
feel welcome to enlighten me...

You could enable 'Play all takes' (in Item properties), then separate tracks are not actually needed.
edit:
I see spk77 has this enabled in his gif, so I'd assume that's the intended way.

the script makes all takes to be played.
Code:
reaper.SetMediaItemInfo_Value(new_item, "B_ALLTAKESPLAY", 1)
it is easier to have it as takes in one single track/item. mix the new created track with your original track as a way to Dry/Wet mix the effect as you desire.

thanks for that explaining ... that helps me get the picture and see why this is done...
I do still think I'd prefer to see them exploded as tracks inside a folder but I can certainly do that myself...

I can code another version for that. I'm a bit rusty because I haven't coded for 16 months
I'll add more options to "settings" section:
f.ex - Create send for new track (copy send from source track)
- Option to add FXs to new track
- Set pitch shifting algorithm for new takes

QQ: Assuming this is the stereo/pitch shifting technique, why wouldn't one just use ReaPitch/ReaDelay for this and make it an FX chain? That's what I did way back when since I didn't really want 6-8 additional tracks just to widen a single vocal track.

It's a one-time setup then as quick as a script and easier to manage since no extra tracks - you just add new FX chain and pick that one?
I think the script is cool!.... just noticing I couldn't find any time savings etc. but I didn't read everything either - though I am very familiar with the technique in the videos hence my curiosity.

Yep that seems a slightly better solution. Maybe it needs just a special small GUI to control unison spread (right term?), wide of dub pitches + reducing levels as high/low as pitch far from center (can be linear or logarithmic). +It should automatically add timeadjustment instances and map then to related IO channels (because each voice in case of using delay should go to its own stereopair). Do you think it will be useful?

As I said above, there is a Waves plugin called ultra pitchshifter and harmonizer, just take a look at the interface and probably some great programming skills will lead to a reaplug that recreates that "environment"

Actually, Waves Doubler is another that does this as a single plug for this purpose - it's basically the same thing.
@MPL, I'm sure some users could find it useful as a targeted purpose easy to use. Right now I just use an FX chain I created using ReaDelay and ReaPitch, wasn't difficult at all to make as you essentially enter the same settings by adding multiple taps instead of having to manage up to 8 separate tracks just to widen a vocal. IOW, I can just toss the FX chain on the vocal(s) I want to widen.
I then ended up with Waves doubler since it was on sale, but to be honest, the FX chain gets the job done as well minus the bells and whistles.

Has anyone mentioned js Ozzifier?
Has time and pitch adjustment of up to four 'copies'
Schwa made a plugin too name escapes me.

Good point! I use it from time to time, it's good for giving a little bit of "that sound" to a vocal.

Sacrilege!
Ozzy got that sound from tight double tracking! Many people assume it was tape delay, but the man is just a beast

You know (you as in everyone) real vocal double tracking isn't "that" hard if the person can sing consistently and sounds better than FX - Also, once aware one will notice just how insanely prevalent real DT is in recordings going back decades - same for loose LCR mixing both are just everywhere.
I'm not as good as the other guy who sings in my band but I can usually pull it off OK but... He is good enough at it that it starts going mostly mono when panned wide. We just did a LOT of vocal double tracking and used FX tricks very little in comparison. Or better said any tricks were on top of existing doubles just for additional gloss.

Ozzy was amazing at it. You can hear some phasing in parts (which is why people assume ADT).
I've managed that with guitar occasionally. Totally ruins the point!

Yea exactly, my band mate (Otis, not Ozzy) is as good at it. I'm a little jealous actually since he can usually pull it off in two passes (that's one take per track and rarely more). However, both of us are musicians who began lead singing out of necessity (LSD - Lead Singer Disease is a real problem ) and he has a 5 year head start on me. I'm trying to catch up!

spk... can I send you a can of WD40? [rust remover]
just wondering if you found the time yet to make the other version that would make each altered vocal on it's own new track and hopefully also put all those into their own new folder ...maybe named VOCAL THICKENED
..or whatever
I'll keep watching
Your existing script is very nice and I can take the result and explode takes across tracks and then put them in a folder... manually... but it would be sweet to have it all in one script
I am always grateful!

This is so great !
I produce Radio Commercials and Promo's in Reaper for Radiostations and applying this script to certain words in the promo text make these words really standout in a very nice effected and quite unique sounding way.
You rock spk77!

spk... I'm probably pushing my luck here but I just have to ask... forgive me
I love the mod you made for hopi... does exactly what I had in mind
Now I wonder if it would be possible to have it run and have it make the resulting folder be selected?
I am asking about this because if that is easy, then I can do a custom action to it to both color it and the children as desired.
I hope that makes some sense
