Default Make track inactive

Hi,
I'm still moving over from protools where i can make a track inactive.

EG: I have a Kontakt or Maschine virtual instrument with multiple outputs that I record a performance onto separate audio multitrack format:8-16 audio tracks.

After making the audio tracks, I make the instrument inactive (freeing up ram etc).
So at any point in the future, I can make the original instrument active and replace/rework the audio and record again. Then make the instrument inactive again.

How is this achieved in reaper?
I don't need to freeze the tracks, as they have already been recorded to audio.
I only want to freeze (or make inactive) only the VI track.

Can anyone offer a solution?

Select the instrument in the FX window (In the add/remove list) and right click "toggle FX offline"

I believe there are also some scripts around to toggle all FX on selected tracks on/offline (would require ReaPack)

In the mixer view, hold shift and left click (on Windows at least) on the effect/instrument to toggle it on and off. Is that what you meant?

Just turning off a plugin will not free up any RAM.

Thank you Stella645,
"toggle FX offline" is exactly what I need.
