Default What is the deal with reaper having issues with certain plugins?

For how much more inherently efficient and stable reaper is compared to a lot of daws, i've noticed that certain plugins create more of an issue for it in a way that I don't see in other daws.

Right now I'm using tsex50 and occasionally it will just derail a session. My cpu usage is extremely low. It's strange that this would happen with a plugin with such a low footprint, but it never happens with using huge amounts of kontakt instances.

Anyone know why this is?

32-bit plugin or 64-bit plugin? 32-bit Reaper or 64-bit Reaper?

What's actually going wrong? Reaper crashing? Plugin stops working? etc.

I'd suggest it's an issue with software programming in general... Two different teams code to the same spec, maybe one interprets it slightly differently... Or misses a crucial detail... Then only tests on platforms A, B, and C, but not D... without including variable Z of course.

I'm amazed computers work at all, given some of the other results humans have produced.

Try running those plugins as a dedicated process: https://reaperblog.net/2012/02/run-p...cated-process/

Commercial plug-ins usually list the compatible/supported hosts. WAVES says REAPER is supported.

Auto-Tune (Antares) says REAPER is "possibly compatible".

With free plug-ins the developers usually can't do such extensive (and expensive) testing & debugging so it's usually hit-or-miss.

FWIW Antares HAVE had issues with Reaper and several other hosts for some time. I joined their beta team to try and help them solvwe them. As far as I am aware all is now fine with the possible exception of Harmony Engine v4 presets.

Both 64 bit. Guess it's just compatibility issues.

Reaper is usually very forgiving when it comes to plugins, I think it's fair to say that, if Reaper has a problem with it, then that plugin has some issues...

Having said that, tsex50 (the old free one, x64) isn't one of them... I had it running live for over 3 hours, last Saturday night, without a hitch.
