Default Possible To Meter Output Always? [SOLVED]

Metering on normal tracks is confusing me all of the sudden.

It seems that the meter shows input level if it is armed, but output level if it's not; unless it's a MIDI track and then it always monitors output.

The weird thing is when I pull the faders all the way down and unarm the tracks, audio tracks are always showing some level on the meters, but MIDI tracks are not. At that point, it's just showing me how loud my item peaks are, even if I can't hear them.
It's confusing and doesn't really make sense. Is this a bug?

Can I get my audio track meters to always show output, even when armed? I don't often need to see the input level, since I can readily see that on my interface. But I would expect a track with its fader down, producing no sound to not show any levels (unless there's signal on the input and monitoring is on).

SOLUTION: prefs/appearance/tcp/track meters display pre-fader levels.

Cockos, if you read this, it should really, really, really be a right click option for the meter...

I'm just confused. If you disarm the track for recording, your meters should show the post fader output for that track. If you're getting something else, then there's something weird going on which is outside my experience.

In situations where the track output level is actually more important than the live input (mostly only live mixes) I usualy just have double tracks. One recording track with Master/Parent off sending to a "monitor track" which is just passing audio to the mix bus and showing the real level on its meter. FX can go one either (or both) of these. I usually hide the record tracks in the MCP and the monitor tracks in the TCP and make sure their colors match.

Edit - Wait! Did you turn on Pre Fader Metering?!?

As long as it's insightful and not in the form of gibberish complaining, have at it, kiddo.

Me too! So there's no way to switch the metering that I'm unaware of? Definitely not doubling up on tracks for this.
