Default No audio through MOTU 828

Running Reaper 4 on MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo under OSX 10.6 using a MOTU 828 II FW interface.

Has been working fine for years. Just downloaded latest software update for Motu (old one was 4 yrs old -version 2)

Now there's no sound from Reaper main outs through the Motu except a rhythmic clicking sound and every few seconds a faint very high pitched sound..

iTunes Mac audio will play through Motu 828 so the 828 is working as is the firewire connection. Reaper will play through Mac audio and my Focusrite VRM headphone amp fine.

MOTU help suggested reinstalling the new driver rebooting which I just did.

Could this be a Reaper problem? Any suggestions

I have 2 828mk3's and 1 828mk2. No issues with Reaper. I honestly can't remember the last time I did a MOTU firmware update. But that's where I'd suggest something went wrong. Did you try that update again?

Note to self: Maybe don't just update the MOTU firmware for the heck of it.

Thanks for your help guys. I did indeed install the original driver but that did not fix it. The MOTU tech then suggest I default the 828 II. I just did and it's working fine on the new driver. I did not know you could default such a device...

I once had the output assignments shift around after updating MOTU drivers. Analog 7-8 would then be the main outs, etc... Had to re-alais everything in REAPER.
My spdif outputs click and or whine or just straight up put out bursts of pink noise when things are not synced and set up right.

Likely this was not your problem, but one of many possible causes.

Default Brief Audio from Motu 828 mkII

My issue is that after dumping .aiff or .wav files from Reason 6.5 into Reaper I get sound for a short time before the audio distorts then redlines to silence. I can't understand the issue because the 828 works with my other programs which include the aforementioned Reason 6.5 along with DSP Quattro 4, Logic Pro 9 ReCycle 2, Live Suite 8 and others. I'm at a loss because I'd rather use Reaper than Logic Pro for arrangements & mixdowns...
