Default Freezing multichannel drums

I was going to freeze my midi drum tracks which are in a multichannel format.

First of all do I select all the channels and freeze them or just (what I think is) the master track? I have one unnumbered power drumkit channel, where the fx is highlighted, and then 8 numbered tracks (with kick, snare,....) where the fxs are not highlighted.

And I just read this "Select a track with virtual instruments and/or processing plug-ins, then either select ‘Track’ from the menu bar, or right- or Command- click on the TCP to bring up the context menu. From here go to ‘Render/Freeze tracks’, and then ‘Freeze tracks to multichannel (render pre-fader, save/remove items and online FX)’. There are mono and stereo variations, but the multi-channel option will automatically use the appropriate Freeze type for your track configuration, so it’s simplest to use that. You’ll see a render dialogue, and then your track media will be replaced by locked items. Repeat for all your tracks (or multi-select and do it all in one), and you’re done."

Does it make sense to freeze to multichannel in this case?

Yeah probably. Unless you really want all those separate items so you can edit them independently. In most cases, it’s probably easiest to have just the one item.

Thanks Ashcat. When I unfreeze them will they "thaw" into the separate channels as they were before? And to freeze them do I just freeze the "master track" or do I have to select all the drum tracks?

Freeze the track with the VSTi on it. When you unfreeze it should just go back to what it was before freeze. Honestly I literally never use Freeze, so I’m not promising on that part.
