Default Grouping tracks - grouped, but can't add fades simultaneously

I want to add a fade to two tracks. After grouping them, I tried to add a fade, but it will only fade on one track at a time. What am I doing wrong?

Don't know without you adding a few more details. Can you perhaps walk us through in detail precisely what you did to set up your groups, and what you're seeing? Maybe add screen shots?

FWIW, I almost never use Groups as I find the Folder system suits me much better. If you try making your two tracks the contents of a folder, then you can still control them independently (set their individual faders, FX, pans, whatever); but fade them up and down together from the folder track. The two tracks will automatically re-route to the parent folder track, and the parent track will automatically route to the Master out (you can change these routings later if you like).

I find this conceptually easy to understand, easy to keep track of visually due to indentations etc, and very flexible. You can set it up in moments and you get an immediate, logical sub mix that you can continue to tweak. I have never found a reason to use Groups in preference to this, TBH -- that's just me of course; everyone has different needs. But is it worth giving this a go?

Track groups currently have nothing to do with editing or items. You have to group the items instead.

This will probably change; the pre-release versions have had Pto Tools-like track edit grouping for a while now, which I've really missed, so it will be great when that feature makes it into a stable release.

If you're talking about a fade on the actual items then you don't even need to group them, just select them and apply your fade to one and the rest will follow.

More then one way to do this. Kenny Gioia's videos

Grouping Automation Envelopes in REAPER

and
VCAs or VCA Lead & Follow Tracks in REAPER

will sort it out.

I use the VCA with envelopes method to fade/volume control several tracks a once if the put-them-all-in-the-same-folder way isn't practical.
