Default Musical Mouse

M-I-C...

I started a thread about continuous midi controllers and precise tones a while back. Today, I was wondering...

Has anyone used, a mouse in a musical setting, maybe connected to keyboard instead of a computer so as to avoid system issues. I was thinking it would be cool to use a 5-button gaming mouse to bend notes of a chord and or control cutoff/feedback.

I remember someone coming up with a way of using an additional mouse as a MIDI controller a couple of years back.
I can't recall the exact details and i never tried it (for some reason, as it seemed pretty cool).

Guys I knew wrote a program called MIDIGrid which was all mouse driven on an Atari ST.

A bit like the modern launchpads whereby a grid square could be any musical "object" from a single note through to complete sequences, loops etc.

For his degree project, he was given the mouse and told "make a musical instrument out of this" ... he eventually became a Prof in Music Technology!

Is this what you were thinking of?: MIDI Mouse

It's not for an additional mouse, it's just for your usual mouse.

JSFX is limited to accessing the buttons and mouse wheel of the standard three button mouse, so a five button mouse controller would not be possible. That could be a feature request.

That is interesting. A step in the right direction. I'll have to play around with it. I was thinking of something that could be used live ideally in conjunction with a midi keyboard.

Interesting idea. Maybe it would make sense to allow drawing notes using mouse? For example, left click would allow draw notes while holding and right click would draw a note with a chosen length. Could be a powerful tool.
