Default Transfer audio from old Cubase SX3(?)

Hi all,

I would love to be able to import some old Cubase SX3 projects in Reaper. I only need to be able to tranfer audio and MIDI, and have it line up correctly. I don't need the old mixes, fx, sends, whatever.

Are new versions of Cubase able to import SX3 project files, so that I could batch-export from there?

I managed to install an old version of SX in a VirtualBox-machine, but I don't remember how to batch export audio from there and make it line up correctly. Tried a few different things, but I'm not sure how to do this, what format is easiest to import in reaper, and so on.

All help with this would be greatly appreciated!

I did it in Cubase 5. Try in the same way with SX3. I saved the midi as midi file, that you can open in whatever DAW. Export the midi file as Type 1.

Then, you are to export the audio as OMF file (better 2.0 than 1.0) and open it with samplitude (30 days trial). Save it as EDL file, which you can open with Reaper. Now you have to import the midi file.

Thank you Teniente. It seems like a lot of work though, but if that's the simplest way, I'll do it. Does anyone else have other solutions, or is this it?

The thing is, I have quite a few projects that I might want to convert.

There is an easier way, AATranslator, but it cost between $59 and $199 depending of the format.

Just export them as a 'selected track archive' and email them to me
info@aatranslator.com.au and I will convert them for you - as long as there isn't a gazillion of them ;-)

Don't bother sending the audio

Thank you much for the offer, that's very kind of you. I've managed to come up with a solution that works pretty well for me. These project don't have too much MIDI in them fortunately, so I can work around that.

What I do is the following:

1. If project track audio begins at different times across tracks, I insert a small piece of audio at the beginning of all tracks, beginning at time zero.

2. Select all events and bounce the audio in Cubase SX. Now audio is consolidated within each track, starting at time zero.

3. Export -> export selected tracks.

4. Import audio to Reaper.

This seems solid and works good enough for now.
