Default take mixer...

just tried the take mixer, this is absolutely amazing!!!

all we need now is a control (maybe above the pan control) to offset each take, lets say, 100 ms back and fourth. that would make the take mixer all you need to quickly get multi-sourced recordings right.

hope you read this (-:

Yeah, I've been thinking about adding more item properties to the mixer. The take offset could however only be made to work with the "source media start" parameter for takes within items, that's not probably ideal for all cases. But if/when I add support for manipulating separate multiple items, it could work with the actual item timeline positions, too...

dont know if its just me, but thats exactly the behaviour i was looking for. that way your items will keep in place for more general editing (muting in parts of song etc), the point is that the offset is used "correct" for the fysical inpossiblety of getting the right phase responce between mics og the right amound of room sound.

Didn't know Take Mixer only worked on Imploded Take Tracks.

I doesn't work on just free positioned tracks without being takes?

Also, is there a contextual menu that opens Take Mixer?

This is great by the way, I see Lawrence's problem with Panning. some themes don't move the pan fader much.

Hey Larry,

The Takes Mixer only works on single items at the moment (whatever takes are present in the item).

Here is a DLL with a debug button in the Take Mixer dialog. Use with an item with at least two takes, pan the takes hard left and right and use the debug button. Then ctrl+c to copy the message to clipboard so you can paste here on the forum so I can see where the slider positions are :

edit : oops, bad bad bad bug in the dll, will re-upload soon!

edit2: Now fixed :

https://stash.reaper.fm/1432/reaper_x...s_commands.dll

edit3: The symptom of the broken DLL was that Reaper could no longer import media files correctly. Experimental code that was not completely disabled in the broken DLL...

Xenakios...

Is there a way to have an extension to help control pan laws at all? Whether similar to your GREAT new take mixer or even a simple action to change pan laws quicker?

Yes. I saw your feature request...I can't hook too well from the extension plugin code to every action happening in Reaper so this could not be made automatic...But it is possible to access the track and take pan laws from the extension code. So shortcuts for things like "Set pan law of selected tracks to 0.0dB" or "Set pan law of selected tracks based on items" etc would be possible.

wanted to repeat my need for "pitch item up/down 5/25 cent"

i said 50 the first time, but 25 makes more sense.

thx, you're the best!

Default Wow this looks good Xenakaos

Hope to get a play with this soon. Work is calling and I am ignoring to play music on my gear.

Can you delay takes with this by a few ms and get a kind of chorus effect or would it be better just to do that with multiple trax?

I would maybe prefer not to make these kinds of spesific commands for the thing. But I could add another set of commands for pitch nudge and a separate pitch nudge value for that in the command configuration window? (The thing is, someone would at some point want "pitch up/down 0.166666 semitones" etc and that would just clutter the menus and the action lists... )

thing is: i need this for manual tuning, so i don't need a specific value, only reasonable steps.

currently i got "select item under cursor" + 5 * "pitch selected item up 1 cent" set to the up-arrow.

this works well, but gives me a huge undo-history. when i want to go 80 cents up (yes, that happens, there are incredibly inaccurate singers out there ), i get 80 items of undo history. this is still way faster than opening up the item properties dialog, maneuvering to the box, entering the value and closing the dialog.

up/down 25 cent is the extended version of this.

it's not the ultimate way, i agree.

i already requested to switch the item volume handle to a pitch-handle, that would be extremely elegant.

another way we could handle this could be a "pitch up/down [dialog] cents", which opens up a dialog box in which one would enter a value like "35" or "-15".

Oooo, a shiny configuration page! I suspected there must be one somewhere. Now all I have to do is find it. Maybe in the main prefs.

I am working on support for time offsets between the takes. The GUI is a bit problematic, I am not so sure the Reaper themed horizontal faders are the best for it. But I don't currently know how to do knobs either (and I don't like those anyway myself) and text fields are a bit so-so too...

Xenakios,
A quick follow up. I've got the extensions working in ubuntuhardy/wine/reaper. Had to remove reaper, and install with factory settings, then add the extensions dll, then the reaper default plugs, then any extras. Restart Reaper and it all went ok.

These extensions rock.

Thanks!

Alex.

I can re-try doing that someday. I got totally mad and frustrated previously trying to implement that. But now I'm more comfortable with C(++), so it should not be such a big problem anymore.

However, if/when I implement that, it will unfortunately have the caveat of being very unfriendly with Reaper's Undo. I can't do much about that, I guess...

Hey Xenakios, do you know of any good examples of C++ coding for beginners?

Most sites stop at Hello World, or then jump to something impossible...I've been searching a bit for examples, and easy problems with answers, far and few between so far...

Also, is MS Visual C++ any good for this work? That's what I'm using at the moment. Cheers

Well, it's a can of worms really...Depends on what you want to do and so on, I guess. I have to think about the answer a bit more. Now feeling too tired to be able to give an answer of any use...

Okay, all you *future* programmers... here's a good place to start: http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/. These are very good books, come in most programming languages and most have a 'beginning' series.

It's fascinating stuff if you can get your brain around it. Enjoy!

Xenakios I have been using your extension for a while and it works flawless!!

I just wonder, some of us already asked for the "Solo-in-front" feature to Justin and maybe is one thing which can be done with the API.

This is one thread:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=3206
Antoher:
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=14726

Maybe you could add a window like the "mixer snapshots" one to your extension with this ability.
Maybe the simpliest way would be:
- One fader
- One on/off button
So the fader controls a trim for the non-selected channels.
Then when you want to do a solo in front, you select the channel or channels you want to hear clearly, you click the On button and you move the fader to lower the volume of the other channels (or you can put the fader at -6dB and let it there always for example). When you are done you click the Off button and everything comes back to its place.

What do you think? Is it possible? Would it be easy for you?

I am finding these extensions more and more useful

Thank you, xenakios.

Could I ask one thing - the Item/Take manipulation menu is a bit long for me - it needs quite a bit of mouse movement to get to the lower items. Perhaps you could consider splitting it up into different sub-menus? For example ("before" and "after"):

- put the last used command at the top of the first menu,
- replace Item/Take manipulation by 6 new sub-menus,
- I have grouped the functions into the 6 sub-menus.

Big pic:
http://img410.**************/img410/2...sions02tr4.png

This, I think, would make it easier to get to the individual functions.

Xenakios, I have a small request.

Could you replicate an autohotkey script of mine natively?

'Copy Selected Take Source Filename to Clipboard'

The script opens a selected takes properties window, presses the 'choose new file' button, and copies the selected file name.

You could go further with:

'Render as New Take, and Open in Editor (and copy source filename to clipboard)'

This is really useful when opening a take copy in Audition's multitrack view...you can then split the file frequency -wise to several tracks, effect it as you want, then export it and overwrite the file copy in Reaper...it works great!

It's destructive editing, but to a new copy ala 'render as new take'.

Anyway I think it would be even better native, so if you're in a coding frenzy there...

Cheers and thanks for the new actions too!

Amazing extension. Only one question. How to take it off?
I mean, I did run the extension in a item with 5 takes. After play with it for a while I decided not to use the "take mixer" in this case, but I could not find the way to take it off and go back to normal use of the take feature.

I was forced to do "Undo".

SomeOne could help me?

Thanks in advance.

I hope you are at least using the latest SWS plugin, where this thing lives now. I haven't touched this thing myself for half a decade probably, so I can't say if it is working currently or not.

Yes, I found it in the last SWS.

And Yes, it works great, except for the issue that I did tell.

Once you use it, You can not leave out.

Thank in any case.

OK, Cancel and the window close buttons work here...So I am not sure what you mean by not being able leave it out. What SWS plugin version and operating system are you on? The feature by the way turns on the "Play all takes" of the item, so maybe you want to disable that in the item properties...

HI and thanks for take time to help me with this old thing Xenakios.
I am using the last SWS. 2.8.0. and Reaper 5.01 Pre5 in a PC Win 7 x64

I am going try to explain properly what is the issue.

Say you've recorded a vocal, and overdub this voice 4 times more. (Obviously in the same time range).

The result is that you have a Item with 5 takes (The first recording plus the 4 overdubs), Right?

Now, just to try (or just to play) you want listen the five takes all together. So you select the Item and go to "action list" and select run "TAKE MIXER". Great! You are listen the five take at the same time, awesome feature!!.

Until here all works as expected.

But now, after the test (or the game) you want go back and continue work in the standard mode, that is, only listening one take and changing between them with "T" key (that is the shortcut to change the take of the item).

Here is the problem:
I cancel the "take mixer" windows and desappears, but I continue listening a mix of the five takes all the time. Including when the "take mixer" window is closed.

Now I always listen the five takes at the same time and I cannot find a way to leave to use the take mixer in that item.

The only way is to do UNDO.

I do not know if my bad english is leaving you understand what I mean.

Cheers and Thank you in advance.

Edit: Yes, If in item properties un-select "Play All Takes" solve the problem and goes to normal state, that was the key.
Maybe all is so simple like go here and Un-select this option, Only have to remember this.

Thanks Xenakios - You are great.

Disable the "Play all takes" in the item properties, like I suggested above. (You can open the item properties by selecting the item and pressing the F2 key...)
