Default Need clarification on updating Reaper

I am updating from 6.29 to the 6.36 vers.

All sorts of problems arose during the install until I found a post from ReaperBlog saying a change since 6.29 (May2021) is to rename (inside Win10) the reaper.exe file to reaper.app.

Path: C:\Progam Files\Reaper(x64)\reaper.exe -- now renamed.

Afterwards I was able to successfully do the update.

I noticed this update created a new reaper.exe file, but left my renamed reaper.app.

QUESTION: Am I meant to keep both files reaper.app + reaper.exe inside my Reaper program folder from now on for all future updates?

Not sure, as I use Windows 10 too, but I would guess that any file extension name change might have to do with the new Apple ARM-based M1 chip compatibility...

...What I do know is that I generally stay updated, am currently running v6.36 (64) in W10, and there is no reaper.app on my drive and never has been. It has always been and remains reaper.exe.

AFAIK you needed to rename REAPER64.app to REAPER.app, and only on macOS.

I guess this was the post you meant

Quote:
changed in May 6.29

+ macOS: rename ARM build to REAPER-ARM.app, Intel 64-bit to REAPER.app, update volume labels of disk images.
Definitely not applicable to W10.

So any problems you had were something different and the fix must have been coincidental. Delete the arm file and all should be fine.

Thank you Quasar (same as the vi-control Quasar?), Tale and stella645.

You are correct on that advice being Mac only.

I just did a test: Deleted the reaper.app file; then reverted to 6.29 and back to 6.36 == no issues, smooth sailing.

Good to clear up that aspect, Bill
