First instrumental (I think)
got together with a flute player, flautist...whatever, and we came up with this.
All sounds and percs Sampletank except:
Main guitar is me playing a simple phrase, then I looped it.
Then I pitched it up a 5th and looped it again.
Flutes: Vic Diesel.

Slightly better ending as suggested:

Observations welcome.

ship breaking... you got to wonder how long amerians will tolerate working conditions like that
then you got to wonder what happens next
then you got to listen to "four five seconds"

I think it's the drums that give it the indian character

That I can understand. Thank you.
But it sounds "disasterous" because both me and Vic specifically didn't want structure.

doesn't sound particularly "disasterous" to me.. just indian
and since it sounds indian, it would be more authentic than the bullshit music you find behind most videos on shipbreaking

I think you're a chameleon... you don't always know what you're doing, though
that's the hazard of songwriting... you work you ass off to say something, but maybe you're not saying that at all
.
meanwhile...

Sammy I normally shy away from instrumentals but I really dig this.
I think it deserves to have the ending tidied up a bit, maybe fade out with a cho cho train in the distance or something evocative like that

anyhow, what I want to hear is the real Sammy dix doing a Sammy dix song... one that I listen to over an over again
...I listen to it because it mystifies me... or is so truthful

Thx man and that's exactly what it needs: tidying up. Thought I could get away with it. heh

True. I haven't posted a just "me" song in some time. But I love working with different people. A weakness of mine.

Thanks FS, that was exactly what we were going for. Vic didn't want to go avant guarde, but he also didn't want something too predictable, so I did what I could within that stricture.

Wow, totally wasn't expecting that. When everything kicks in, it's exactly as FS says, it takes you to another place. But then, when that hand cymbal thing (i'm not sure if that's what it's called) comes in, it gets a little chaotic for a bit -- maybe that's the intention.
I see what you're doing with the ending, and it's perfect -- just finish it though! I think one or two more bars of the guitar riff alone after everything cuts out would be perfect.

Real nice, Sammy. You have used the word 'Sysygy' for other tunes, no? I recall seeing it before, but I don't recall this song.
Anyway, I like this. It is very soothing... and tranquil. The mix itself is very warm and pleasing to the senses. Not only is the music very nice, the song is represented very well.
Sweet one, man.

thx Kevin. and yes, there was an entirely different, less chaotic Syzygy I which was just me and no flutes. Also "exotic" but more guitar oriented.

I really hate ikm, I just got rid of a sampletank, but listening to your track I had an epiphany, ok not an epiphany but an acknowledgment that the sounds a pretty damn useable and it's all about how you use them.

Just more experimentation, Jeff. Fliker was right: I don't always know what I'm doing, but damn I give it a hell of a try. If I screw up, I chalk it to 'experience.'
@Bluetinstar
That'd make a great band name or song title, or is it already? But thank you guy, I take a few chances like this.

Believe me, def not all of them! But the ethnic stuff is pretty decent, either that or we're more tolerate of them because they're not heard as much as the more common stuff (guitar, piano, etc.).

I get an indian or asian vibe too. I didn't find it chaotic, just effective and well executed.

I think working with other folk in different genres helps me as a musician, Mark. So it's kinda selfish in a way. Thanks.

I hear both too Ham. But I didn't start out saying, "I think I want this to have an Asian (Indian or whatever) feel. I just Went to ST3's Ethnic folders and picked stuff. Prob a few other cultures in there as well.

Kudos to whoever came up with it. Band name was the first thing that came to me when I saw your "logo." Almost sounds 'glam' in the vein of Roxy Music or something.

Actually I came up with it in 1967, probably before you were even a glint in your mothers eye !
Bless you...
