Default Karaoke tekst - possible in Reaper?

Hi there
I'm curious if it's possible (or even perhaps easy!) to create karaoke text on top of video in Reaper - is it, and if so how?

Any tips on 3rd party alternatives are also welcome.

Many thanks!

I know that x-raym has a cool region-text to video processor script which he sells on his site. https://www.extremraym.com/en/downlo...deo-processor/

This could be pretty handy to make karaoke videos.

Thanks for the suggestion - atm I'm using midi items and the video-effect with some text overlay (the one from Jon at the reaper blog). This will probably be the way for me to do it for this project.

I'm still trying to get a karaoke text effect

Would it be possible to combine the effects; 'overlay: text' and 'invert colours'. to achieve a 'invert colour' on the text, as a horizontal wipe that can be controlled via parameter modulation, or perhaps could invert all text left or right of the play cursor?

I have tried looking at a the effects code, but the 'invert colour' preset affects all video, not just the text preset. Perhaps this is not (currently) possible?.

I read it several times but I'm still not sure what you mean. Do you want to show how the text should be sung? Kind of an effect which blends the words out as they are sung in time?
In my opinion this could only be done with blend effects as Reaper can't overlay just one track but instead always overlays to everything below. So you can't edit the text overlay without the video from the tracks below.

You could do something like that: create two versions of the text (one inverted) and then blend between them via crop or alpha mask. This would be a lot of work with the text overlay preset. And if I were you I would do my text in Photoshop (just the same image resolutions as the video) in two versions and just swapping the two versions via crop automation in time.

I can't imagine something more efficient than that. It also looks a lot better if you use Photoshop (or other graphic software). The text will be smoother and it renders way faster than the video processor.

If you need further help. Let me know!
If I misunderstood you completely. Also let me know.

Hi Elisat, yes it should show how the text is sung (by colouring the text).

I was hoping for a one-plugin-solution that could get around the issues with not affecting upstream video, by only affecting the text (within the same plugin).

Unfortunately that's not possible without enormous efforts. Only thing you could do is using another software. I'm not a fan of Microsoft but they offer a free Karaoke software which seems to be a good way to create your own stuff. I don't know how it works. But you could try if this works for you.

The other option would be to write the whole lyrics in verses in a graphic software, exporting those lines as images and placing them in the right timing in Reaper. And don't forget: If you want it animated you need two variations which can be used to show which word has to be sung. A lot of work! (Though I don't know how easy it is with "Karaoke one")

Thanks again! I'm currently working under the 'Reaper dogma'. If it ain't done in Reaper, then it don't get done

Funny how something like changing the colours on text from left to right seems like an easy thing for a non-programmer like me, but then actually is impossible

Thanks once again!

Default Karaoke

Not impossible - This video was all done in Reaper. The karaoke text was done with chroma key and the Horizontal wipe in the video processor. Also using the invert colors on the text.
