Default Theme: X-Raym Analog (with Right-Side TCP FXs + Dark Mod) [v2023-12-14: LatchP]

Hi everyone !

Since I speak about my theme in the thread What Theme Do You Use The Most and Why? by SEA, it becomes the top most read article of my website.

So, I thought that it deserved to have its own thread the Reaper Forum :P

Let me introduce you my theme : X-Raym Analog

It is a heavily customized mod of the great Default Analog 1.8 theme by Lerian, itself based on the Reaper 4.0 Default Theme.

You can view screenshots, read about all it and download it on my website right here.

I think it can interest all people who like both themes (Default Analog and the Reaper 4 Default),
who like clear / neutral / warm theme theme,
who like to have custom colors choosable by the user (meters, selected item background etc...),
who like dB scale and every meters,
and are interested by the ability to color background TCP (a thing that causes problems in the default theme)

Feel free to comment here or on my website, share ideas, and use it !

More than the theme itself, which fits all my desire until now, it is really the ergonomic and theming ideas I wanted to share with you.

Thanks to all

----------------------------
UPDATE 2020-04-29: Right-Sided TCP FX slots for REAPER 6.14 and lots of improvements !

----------------------------
UPDATE 2020-05-06: Dark Theme variation! (and also minor updates)

More infos on the website link!

This looks interesting.... But why do I need to import an entire config to use the theme? Can you make this into a Reaper theme that can simply placed in the theme folder??

Theme is nice but has bugs. E.g. when you set the pan to dual pan the display is messed up.

@richie43 : it was easier to manage for me =/
but you are not the only one to want the theme solo, so I just put a link in the article (just above the old one)

@fladd : yes, dual pan is not optimum, as I said in the article, I noticed that too late. But do you use dual pan often ?
I personnaly don't so it was not a big problem so far, for a theme designed to satisfy my needs.

As I said, it's not perfect and I know it, but I think there is some things here and there than can interest some themer out there

Thanks you both for your advice !

Well, I constantly use dual pan or stereo pan mode as for me it's the most visual and easiest way to really control the panning of a track. So, your solution of putting the second control pan button on another line is nonsense to me. But maybe we're very few to share this opinion ?
Except this, it's a really nice work.

Thank you I started to have serious doubts about it ^^

Indeed, I will not encourage anybody to use this theme is dual pan pot is important (at least, at this stage of developpement).
Notice than in Default Reaper 4.0 Theme, the second pan pot is also on a extra line (when TCP has rich its last key-with). :P (but yes, the whole buttons shift one line up show that extra line)

But well I agree, I'm not very proud of this behaviour.
If will probably do something about it if people are interested by this theme.

Just to be clear. I was talking about dual pan in the mixer! In there, the width pot is just not visible, since it is covered by the horizontal pan slider.

thanks for the report, I will think about that

Yes, this...I don't want to replace my whole config scheme just to use a theme. Package it like everyone else and I'll gladly give it a run. it looks nice on the surface.

@edkilp : I put the link on the theme only, as richie43 asked me
The link is on the article with the name "X-Raym Analog Dropbox", don't you find it ?
I will prepare a clear and nice download button during the day.

despite that, don't forget that :
- you can choose what to important in a config file (if you want just the theme or just the menus etc..., you can)
- you can make backups of your config

To provide the theme as an element of my config was obviously a bad confusing idea. Sorry about that =/

For the others, the dual pan pot bug will be fix asap

Hi guys !

I just updated the theme, for MCP dual pan pots support !
(demonstration here)

You can download the theme (and the theme only) on the page already link above, with a new big dopbox download button I just designed

I also optimized the source code, from about 20% ! (1100 lines to 900)

Hope you will like it, I'm still open to any criticisme

Hello sir! Great work on the theme!
I have a suggestion that concerns the separator layouts !
I think Witti really nailed with Apollo.
They are wider with big names on them it really splits things up clearly !
It is especially true for MCP not for TCP except for track names.
Salutation au capitaine Zhan !

Thanks you, kingocountry and Pinknoise

@Pinknoise : I have to admit that this Apollo seprator is quite cool.
I did some test but I noticed that the text-size was too small : it is linked to the other TCP name size, wich are not as big as I would like in my theme for a separator like that.
I will definitely try some more things, but at least a separator with name... it's a good idea

i find it a little irksome that the fx button in the tcp is hidden until the tcp is resized to a large size.

but perhaps theres an option for that in the prefs, i dont know.

what say you X-Raym?

Hmmmm I have to say that I dont have such problem, I can view the FX button in TCP at about 40 pixels width (which is not "large")

Perhaps you have to test the other TCP layouts ?

Can you please send me a screenshot ?

I agree with this!
I posted something about it in Apollo thread:

" I work a lot from the TCP (Everything available on MINIMIZED TCP with Vertical Meter Layout - Record,Monitor,Input,Input FX,Meter,Volume, Master, Send, Receive,Pan,Envelope,FX, FX Bypass and Phase - )

There are very few themes (If there is one ??) that offer complete options from minimized TCP wich makes it easier for me to work with 50+ tracks not having to expand and collapse layouts all the time.

I think this is one of Apollo's strengths. "

If you could make a layout that has everything on it when minimized you'd be my hero!

@reapercurious : OH I see what you mean

There is some TCP layout in my actual theme that allox to show the fx button when minimized. For exemple : vertical meters.

@Pinknoise : To have access to ALL TCP functions depsite the fact the track is minimzed or not is pretty complex : the crucial number one thing is to allow the perfect reading of the title, and buttons have a minimal size to respect.
I'm pretty sure that if I succeed to do that, a lot of people will note be happy because there title will displayed only with 6 letters when tcp is minimized.

=> SOLUTION :
Have a custom floating (or docked) toolbars with all TCP actions you need.
It could be a great way to save space for the title in tcp, and to have access to action from hidden buttons Ok, it doesn't reflect the "state" of the tracks, but it can be something interesting !

thanks both of you for your advice and criticism

There are various title spacing happening as you drag TCP length not just 6 spaces.
But I understand it can be tricky to code...I wish...crossing fingers...
Thanks for your consideration.

Actually, the number of letters is dependant to the font-size (6 was just a random example which meant "not enough" letters.)
But this behavior is definitely something to remember !
Thanks you for sharing this idea

is there a certain place in the code that specifies the tcp layout?

really like this theme, would be cool to mod (on my own) it using numbers from apollo if its not impossible.

Default Bug?

Awesome theme!!!
I encountered an issue with takes:

If i have a track where i have 3 or 4 takes, SOMETIMES, when i toggle through the takes, the background color gets messep up.

in the next image I select take 1, but the background of take 3 is highlighted (you can see at the top take 1 is selected)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/x18yagkhnp...27.23.png?dl=0

in this one, take two is selected, but the background of take 4 is highlighted

https://www.dropbox.com/s/26jr2rr4ai...28.48.png?dl=0

i have not modified anything, not even from reaper prefs

I hope we can get this thing solved since this is the best theme for me!

@mmmb
Thank you very much

For your bug I have currently no idea, I have to admit I don't work often with takes (I prefer Lanes :P). Can you please make a short video/gif with your problem ? I want to see how you switch between takes and some other things, in order to be able to reproduce it.

@Alxi

I hope you enjoyed it

@reapercurious

TCP layoutS are define all other the rtconfig file in the folder inside the themeZip
What you are looking for is not impossible but it would require time and patience

@everyone
Thanks to all of you who share my theme throught this article of my website

I did a small updates about grid lines colors, I encourage you to take a look at it, I'm pretty sure you will like the idea :P

Cheers !

Thank you Jed , I'm glad you like grid colors, I just put it recently in the theme.
It's a proof that small ideas can have a big impact on user experience and this is exactly what this theme is about : a lot of small ideas put together :P

Awesome theme! Love it! Just one downside for me. I don't like the color of selected items. Its not easy on my eyes. Is there a way to change that?

@HugoRibeiroDotCom
Yes there is !
I really wanted to have a flexible theme, so I bring back some customizations options which have been disabled by the default theme :P

What you have to do is to go in the Preferences>Themes options, find the Selected Item color (actually, find the beautiful green that you don't like ^^) and change it to what you want. I think there is an other color field for the waveform of selected item, and there you go !

Thank you for your support, feel free to share the link

Another little bug: In MCP bottom, where the track nr is indicated, the background on selected tracks is a little bit too bright. In the TCP it is correct.

Oh and the vertical meters are still horizontal, just the db scale changes and becomes hence unreadable.

It is not a bug properly speaking, at most, it is a design mistakes :P
What don't you don't like ? The small grey vignette arround the index number or the white around it ?

Can you please make a screenshot ?

Sorry for the late reply.

1) I was just wondering why the white around the grey vignette in the MCP is a different one than in the TCP? The one in the TCP is light grey and fits nicely with the rest of the theme. The one in the MCP is a brighter white and does not fit into the theme. Why not use the same for consistency?

2) This issue just magically resolved itself! No clue why? It might have to do with from which layout I switch to it or so... EDIT: Nope, it depends on vertical size. If I make the TCP smaller, then the meters get broken.

2) Please post a screenshot if you still encounter problem

1) I have to admit that there is an inconsistency bewteen TCP and MCP, but the culprit is not the index-vignette (grey square) but the background.

As you can see, vignette are the same grey, but background (when selected) is not the same brightness. This leads to the question below :

@everybody
Do you mind about this inconsistency ? do you prefer bright or not so bright background when selected ?
I don't promise anything but it will certainly make me think about it !

Cheers !
